Are Salt and Pepa married?
No members of the group are currently married, though both Salt and Pepa were in marriages in the past.
Salt was married for 28 years to music producer Gavin Wray, whom she dated for about a decade before tying the knot. She had a “difficult” four-year-long divorce process. “It was hard… one of the darkest times of my life because it took so long,” James told The Jasmine Brand in 2019.
Regarding the reason for their split, the musician said, “It was me trying to fill someone else’s void,” she continued. “And I didn’t realize that I was doing that. Sometimes we make ourselves small to fit in someone’s box and accommodate them. A lot of times we do that with men. And when I was coming out, it was a long process of me coming out of the dark part of being divorced.”
She credited her faith and her friends for getting her through that period of her life. “I talked to Pep a lot, I cried a lot,” she said. “I didn’t try to rush through emotion and the death of my marriage. I really focused on healing and being consistent with whatever I had to do. I took a few classes, I did a little therapy. Whatever you have to do to get yourself out of it, you will one day eventually get past it.”
Pepa was married to rapper Anthony “Treach” Criss from 1999 to 2001. The couple met eight years before their wedding on MTV’s Spring Break. “He gave me a kiss, and I was like, oh my gosh. It was really different,” Denton told the New York Times the year they wed. “Then he asked me to stay for the weekend, and honey, we’ve been soulmates ever since.”
After they split, Pepa claimed that Treach allegedly physically abused her. In her 2008 memoir, Let’s Talk About Pep, Pepa recalled the moment Treach told her he wanted out of the relationship. “He grabbed my ring… and threw it at me with all his might… it hit me right in the middle of my forehead,” she wrote, according to per Nicki Swift. “He picked me up by my throat, choking me, and he slammed me into the footboard.”
In 2020, Treach told The Shade Room that he had a “love-hate relationship” with his ex, who attended his wedding in 2019.
When the interviewers asked for the “real story” behind their split, Treach asked, “What’s the number one cause of divorce?” When someone in the group answered that it was cheating, he said, “For the record, I never had to cheat on her.”
Treach alleged that he and Pepa had women on the side together, claiming that Pepa wanted to have a relationship with one of the women by herself.
Is DJ Spinderella married?
DJ Spinderella is married to comedian Quenton “Q” Coleman, otherwise known as Q Got Jokes. They’ve been married since 2021. DJ Spinderella and Q met at a Dallas, Texas, strip club through a mutual friend and dated for six years before walking down the aisle, per the Atlanta Black Star.

In 2018, Pepa dated her former bodyguard, Aundre Dean, who was also a musician that she was mentoring. He was allegedly married with a child on the way when he was in a relationship with Pepa. “Now, I’m dating Aundre who used to be my bodyguard,” she said on her show Growing Up Hip Hop, per BET. “It’s good for me. It feels good. It feels right.”
Do members of Salt-N-Pepa have kids?
Salt and her ex share two children, daughter Corin and son Chapele. They were born in 1991 and 1999. “Having my daughter, besides finding Jesus, is the best thing that I’ve ever experienced, my kids,” Salt said. “Like, I needed that lil’ baby in my life, you know? She kept me company on the road.”
In 1990, Pepa welcomed her son, Tyran, with her then-boyfriend, rapper Tyran “Tah-Tah” Moore. With Treach, Pepa has a daughter, Egypt, who was born in 1998. They both appeared on Growing Up Hip Hop.
As for DJ Spinderella, she has one daughter, Christy Anderson, who came along in 1992. Christy’s father is former NBA player Kenny Anderson.
