‘Little Singles’ Stars Break Down ‘Hurtful’ Love Triangle Secret & What’s Next

During the inaugural season of TLC’s Little Singles, five adults with dwarfism soak in the summer sun in Palm Springs while looking for love along the way. While the season is just getting started, the blossoming love triangle between Krista Sulaica, Stephanie Vrettakos, and Sammy Replogle already has everyone talking. Now, Little Singles stars Krista and Jordanna “JJ” James are sitting down with Swooon to dive into everything that has happened so far and dish on what’s ahead.
When it comes to romance, Krista, who was immediately smitten with Sammy, explained, “I’d say that some people say what I’m looking for is unrealistic, but I don’t think so. I don’t think that you should lower your standards, especially when it comes to choosing a life partner.”
According to JJ, she was happily living in her “single girl era” ahead of the season, having been single for five years and celibate for nearly four. While she may not have come into the season looking for love, JJ revealed that there is a love story brewing for her this season. She told Swooon, “When I started seeing sparks flying, I was like, ‘Oh, okay.'” She continued, “What I want is a nice guy, emotionally intelligent, funny, and then also is proud of what I do for a living, because I’m also a burlesque dancer. I want somebody that’s secure with themselves.”
During the season, Krista revealed that she had never dated another little person before. She told Swooon, “I got thrown into a world that I have never experienced before in my life… I had never even hung out or talked to any guys before that were little people like me… I’ll be honest, I thought it was gonna be a cakewalk, and I was gonna find the love of my life immediately, and I just did not realize how many variables go into it, because the little people dating pool is very small and very competitive.” Especially when it comes to the yearly Little People of America Convention, where most of the cast met.
Krista added, “I don’t like dating men that my friends have already dated or been involved with. I don’t think that that’s nice. It makes me feel personally uncomfortable to do that, and I think that if I do want to get into the little people dating circle, that is something that I’m going to have to compromise on.”
“It’s hard, too, because when we all go to the convention, we fit that one year into that one week, and so that’s when we’re trying to get to know everybody really, really fast. I think that’s what makes dating hard when it comes to little people at the convention because we’re just like, ‘Oh, okay, let me get to know you,’ but then you see somebody else, and you’re like, ‘I need to get to know you, too.'”
This season, viewers have gotten to see firsthand just how complicated the little people dating circle can get. While Sammy has been flirting with Krista since Day 1, he’s been hooking up with their costar, Stephanie, for the last year. With JJ and John Ferguson finding out about Sammy and Stephanie’s connection first, Krista was the last to be let in on the secret.
“I was shocked. I was really embarrassed, actually,” Krista admitted to Swooon. “I wish that everyone would have been more truthful with me, but I can understand some people like to be a little bit more reserved in their dating life. Because there were so many negative emotions being built up, I think that it would have been better if someone would have said something sooner, and it wouldn’t have — I don’t want to say escalated the way that it did because I can’t give too much away… I was disappointed that I was the last one to find out. That was a little hurtful to me.”
Looking forward to the rest of the season, JJ teased that things get more complicated in her love life as well. She shared, “I learned a lot, I will say, and there are times where I had to be vulnerable because I used to live in Palm Springs. I was living with my ex, and it wasn’t a great experience, so coming back to Palm Springs, and especially being with these guys, I learned a lot. I had to be vulnerable.” When it comes to who she sees sparks with this season, and whether they’ve already been introduced to viewers, JJ quipped, “Maybe. I don’t know.”
