90 Day Fiancé stars Ashia Montgomery and Maxwell Okeke have set themselves apart from the rest of the Season 12 cast as the only couple to get denied for the K-1 visa on suspected fraud. Now, they’re exploring their options for getting married in Nigeria.
Ashia is a Pentecostal prophetess-in-training who believes that her fiancé, Maxwell, was sent to her by God. During the season premiere, the two revealed that Maxwell had not only been denied a visa, but also got banned from the States. Ashia explained, “I never in a million years — the thought never crossed my mind that he would get denied. I thought that God was on my side, and he would get approved.”

Are Ashia and Maxwell still together?
As of Episode 9, Ashia and Maxwell are still going strong. However, given the pressure from his family and stress from getting their visa denied, these two may not make it to their wedding day. Currently, Ashia and Maxwell do follow each other on social media, which is always a good sign for reality TV couples.
Did Ashia and Maxwell get married in Nigeria?
After getting their visa denied, Ashia and Maxwell pivoted to a new plan — getting married in Nigeria and applying for the United States’ spouse visa instead. While the duo thought about appealing his K-1 visa denial, Maxwell explained, “Our best shot is the spousal [visa]. It’s stronger. When it’s approved, I’m coming there with my green card, not coming over like the K-1.”
Instead of returning to Nigeria for a big wedding, the couple decided to get married during Ashia’s current trip, with her mom and his family in attendance. Right now, it’s unclear whether they’ll go through with the wedding.
How did Ashia and Maxwell meet?
Ashia and Maxwell met online after God told her that her husband was “not close.” She expanded her search on a dating app and met Maxwell days later. Admitting that she would have told someone dating a Nigerian that they were getting scammed, Ashia got on a flight to Nigeria with her best friend to meet Maxwell and his best friend, Silas, whom they had recently introduced to each other.
Three days into their trip, Silas proposed to Ashia’s best friend. A day later, Maxwell wrote, “Will U Marry Me?” in what appears to be ketchup on a plate, asking for her hand in marriage.
Why was Maxwell’s K-1 visa denied?
During the premiere of Season 12, Ashia and Maxwell’s visa was denied due to suspected fraud. While he was originally approved, he had gone to his appointment right before Silas had his own. After Silas’ appointment, he was called back in, and his visa was denied because Ashia and Maxwell appeared in Silas’ pictures with his fiancée. Ashia revealed, ‘They decided that it looks like fraud. And so then, not only that, he yelled at them and told them, not only am I going to file this under fraud, but I’m also going to ban you from the U.S.”
