What To Know

If there’s one thing 90 Day Fiancé fans have loved to discuss during Season 12, it’s Marissa Rubinetti and her family, who were originally described as “upper-crust.”

When Marissa sat down with Swooon to chat about her relationship with Edward Gomez, she revealed that her family will continue to make appearances this season. “You will definitely see more of my mom, for sure. You’ll see the boys as well, and maybe a little bit more of [my ex-husband] Michael,” she said.

According to the star, who previously called fans’ reactions to her relationship “brutal,” fans have a skewed perception of her family. Setting the record straight, she told Swooon, “It’s funny, I think a lot of people perceive us to be this ‘upper-crust’ family, like I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth, which is completely false. I am a kid from the Bronx. I grew up in New York City for my whole life. I didn’t move to Pennsylvania until I was 21.”

As for her mom, JoAnn, who married former David’s Bridal CEO Bob Huth, she revealed, “My mom was a single mom, and we struggled throughout our lives. I mean, we lived in a very small house with my grandparents, and then my mom got remarried [to Bob] when I was in college, and her life opened up beautifully in Pennsylvania because my stepdad was very successful in his career, and so was my mom. They built this life together.”

During recent episodes, viewers have watched JoAnn question Edward about his intentions and moving to America to be with her daughter and grandkids. “A lot of people are picking on them for being too judgmental of Edward, because they have money and he doesn’t, but that’s not the case,” Marissa explained. “A lot of times families do interrogate the person coming in from another country. Like, ‘What are your intentions? Are you coming in for a green card?'”

Of course, Marissa’s is not the first family to have this discussion on 90 Day Fiancé. “If you watch the show, a lot of families do this, protecting the American,” she defended. “Just because my parents have money, people are picking on them, saying, ‘You’re looking down on him because he doesn’t have a lot of money,’ but that’s not the case. They’re just making sure that my heart is protected.”

According to Marissa, her mom “doesn’t like that people are judging her and thinking that she’s an elitist because she’s really not. She’s a beautiful, kind-hearted woman. She has welcomed Edward with open arms to our family.”

That said, Marissa laughed, admitting that, “She does love that everybody thinks that she looks great for her age. I don’t love that people think that I’m her older sister, which I’m just like, ‘I can’t win,’ you know?”
