‘Camp Rock 4’ Romance Hopes Revealed by ‘Camp Rock 3’ Director

Camp Rock 3 may have been more friendship-focused than the previous two films, but director Veronica Rodriguez has made it clear that she has multiple potential romances brewing for a potential Camp Rock 4.
“I think this movie needed to be friendship-focused, mostly because of the overall plot,” Rodriguez explained. “This is Camp Rock with a little bit of The Breakfast Club vibes. It’s about the final five. Even how I filmed it, and I hope people notice this, you don’t see cutting around to different characters and conversations edited together. I love putting the camera on a group of five kids and seeing them talk to each other. Feeling that chemistry and friendship in that one shot.”
That said, Rodriguez told Swooon, “At this age, the romance is so fun. Always give me a good romance.” She revealed, “Of course, we have our romance vibes with Fletch [Malachi Barton] and Sage [Liamani Segura], and then there’s even some lowkey stuff between Desi [Hudson Stone] and Callie [Brooklynn Pitts] going on, and a little Rosie [Lumi Pollack] and Cliff [Casey Trotter]. When you’re that age, there’s no getting rid of the romance. That’s for sure.”

Looking forward to Camp Rock 4, Rodriguez explained that there has been no confirmation of another sequel. That is, not yet. “We’re all just kind of waiting and seeing. But like, I am manifesting a Camp Rock 4. I love these kids. They’re so talented, and their relationships are so satisfying. I could watch them forever. Give me a 4, 5, and 6.”
So what would Rodriguez like to explore in a potential Camp Rock 4? The romances, of course! “I would love to explore the romance a little bit more, now that we have a really good foundation for all of these characters, and know them all as individuals because I never want to have a character identified by the romance. Now that we’ve done that work, let’s go have some fun. Like, can we have someone kiss? I would love for that. That would be really fun and a nice continuation of what we’ve already set up.”
When we left off with these campers, they were about to head on the road with Connect 3. “I think there are so many questions about the final five going on tour with Connect 3,” Rodriguez told Swooon. “What was that like? What happens to this group of friends? Where did that leave them? Going on tour is a completely crazy experience as we learn through the challenges that Lark [Sherry Cola] puts them through. So, how did the tour change them, if it did at all? I would love to explore that.”
