Adults Season 2 is almost here, and it’s about to get messy (in the best way possible). The friend group will be dealing with the aftermath of that Anton (Owen Thiele) and Paul Baker (Jack Innanen) kiss, fully entering love triangle territory. It puts Issa (Amita Rao) in a tricky spot, what with Paul Baker being her boyfriend and Anton being her best friend. And we can’t forget that Billie (Lucy Freyer) and Samir (Malik Elassal) have their own romantic entanglements across Season 1 that’ll factor into Season 2.

Swooon is here for all the romantic tension and drama. For maximum impact in Season 2, you need to remember the nitty-gritty romance details in Season 1 — so we have you covered. What exactly happened between Anton and Paul Baker before that finale kiss? Is Samir still dating Carly (Rachel Marsh)? Keep reading for the rundown of all the relationship statuses. (Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for Adults Season 1.)

Paul Baker & Issa

Status: Still dating

Issa and Paul Baker are already a couple when we first meet them in Episode 1. Thanks to the new episode, “Marathon Day” or Episode 0, we find out that Issa met Paul Baker — who moved to New York City from Canada — during the New York City Marathon. Issa is in a cafe that Paul Baker stumbles into after the race, collapsing in front of her. She takes care of him and then brings him back to the house.

Issa and Paul Baker are steady throughout Season 1, as Paul Baker integrates into the friend group and is extended an offer to move in. The hurdle comes at the end of the season, when Paul Baker’s visa expires. Facing deportation, Issa offers to marry him for a green card. It’s even more complicated because Issa is already legally married. She married Zack-Carlos (Julian Manjerico), a “nightmare twink,” as a joke in college. Issa doesn’t tell Paul Baker, who’s “obsessed” with honesty.

Samir and Anton convince Zack-Carlos, who’s desperate to rejoin the friend group, to divorce Issa. He wants to be in the wedding, and his arrival at the courthouse exposes Issa’s lie, devastating Paul Baker. Even divorced, Issa gets cold feet. Billie walks down the aisle in her place, and Samir offers to marry him. Issa tells Paul Baker to choose who he wants to marry…

Anton & Paul Baker

Status: Married, but not together (it’s complicated)

…Leading to the post-wedding reveal that Paul Baker married Anton, though whether Paul Baker picked Anton or Anton volunteered is unclear. Anton and Paul Baker become close friends over the course of Season 1, particularly when they mess around at the hospital together while Billie’s getting her procedures done in Episode 2. After that bonding experience, Anton advocates for Paul Baker to move into the house. (Which Issa has been saying all along.)

In “Marathon Day,” we find out that Anton and Paul Baker had a meet-cute of their own. When Anton’s coworkers come to the house to congratulate him for running the race — he only pretended he did — Anton stumbles across a sleeping Paul Baker. He wakes up when Anton tries to steal his foil blanket to back up his lie. Paul Baker saves the day by giving Anton, whose lie was about to be exposed, his medal.

Throughout Season 1, Anton is in the midst of a dry spell after a messy breakup. He’s scared of getting hurt again. Issa and Paul Baker try to set him up with a stranger, whom they planted an AirTag on, but the plan doesn’t work. (Long story.) Anton and Paul Baker bond further when Issa forces them to watch over their temporary house guest, Annabelle. Annabelle is a rude teenager in town for an abortion, and Paul Baker and Anton act like parents — albeit fed-up ones — to her.

As Paul Baker’s wedding looms, Anton guesses how Paul Baker is really feeling without him saying a word. Paul Baker wanted his wedding to be special, with glow sticks at the reception. Anton brings glow sticks to the courthouse before he ultimately marries Paul Baker.

"ADULTS" -- “Theracide” -- Season 1, Episode 5 — Pictured (L-R): Charlie Cox as Mr. Teacher, Lucy Freyer as Billie.

Billie & Mr. Teacher

Status: Broken up

After she gets laid off from her job and has a quarter-life crisis, Billie has a brief romance with Mr. Teacher (Charlie Cox), her middle-aged former high school journalism teacher. She goes to an art gallery to meet his friends, and it goes disastrously. In Episode 6, she throws a dinner party to impress him and show her maturity, but it, too, goes horribly.

Mr. Teacher arrives high on ketamine, but Samir tries to hide that fact from Billie. Samir also tries to keep Mr. Teacher from breaking up with Billie, a realization that he has during the dinner party. When Mr. Teacher’s state comes to light, his ex-wife has to come pick him up, and he and Billie say goodbye for good.

In the finale, Billie has a threesome with a couple (D’Arcy Carden and John Reynolds), but all she gets from that is an STI. So, she enters Season 2 single and ready to mingle.

FX

Samir & Carly

Status: Still dating

In Episode 1, Samir meets with his former girlfriend, Carly, to make sure he didn’t accidentally take advantage of her. (Long story, again.) Carly says he had sex with her while she was drunk, which worries Samir. She jokes that he sexually assaulted her, but assures him later that they’re OK via text. The message arrives as he’s about to hook up with someone else, and he leaves the awkward situation when he gets it.

In Episode 7, it’s revealed that Samir and Carly have fully reconnected and started dating again. They go on a trip upstate together, and Samir is seriously stressed about making sure it goes perfectly. He clogs the toilet in their cabin and panics, trying desperately to fix it while hiding it from Carly, but he has to fess up. Carly admits she clogged it first, and the ice is broken. They grow closer. So, they’re still a couple going into Season 2.
