Who Is the Ultimate ‘Days of Our Lives’ Supercouple? Deidre Hall & More Weigh In
Every soap opera understands the value of romance in terms of storytelling. However, few can deny that Days of Our Lives excels when it comes to telling love stories. The soap specialized in triangles in the show’s early days – Bill (Ed Mallory), Laura (Susan Flannery), and Mickey (John Clarke), for example. But it was clear that the couple with rooting value were Bill and Laura, just as fans later embraced Mickey and Maggie (Suzanne Rogers).
Swooon asked Days of Our Lives cast members at the show’s 60th Anniversary Celebration who they think is ultimately the best DAYS supercouple. The beauty of this query is that there’s no “right” or “wrong” answer!
Whether they went with OG supercouple Tom (Macdonald Carey) and Alice (Frances Reid), real and reel-life duo Doug (Bill Hayes) and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes), or even Martha Bradford and Reggie DuBois (okay, nobody chose Martha and Reggie, but we know these two still have support out there in fandom!), all the responses came from the heart.
You might think that newcomer Conner Floyd (set to debut next spring as Chad) may still be getting up to speed on his DAYS supercouple history, but his insightful answer to our question may be the best response of all! “The ultimate supercouple is the relationship between the show and the fans! Days of Our Lives, just like Y&R, has a very dedicated fan base. They’re passionate. They watch every day,” he said.

Marlena & John
Martha Madison (Belle Black): John [Drake Hogestyn] and Marlena [Deidre Hall]. I don’t think you can beat them, but we have so many, including Bo [Peter Reckell] and Hope [Kristian Alfonso], and Bill and Susan, both in real life and onscreen.”
Eric Martsolf (Brady Black): “I’m a little biased in that department but I’ve got to go with ‘Dad’ and ‘Mom’ – John and Marlena on that one. Damn! Just the strawberries and bubble baths alone!”
Raven Bowens (Chanel Dupree): “I would say Marlena and John.”
Linsey Godfrey (Sarah Horton): “John and Marlena. Drake was such a special human. To be on the show at the same time as him was special. I love Deidre, too. They’re icons, and John and Marlena are icons.”
James Reynolds (Abe Carver): “John and Marlena. Bo and Hope would be No. 2 on that list, but John and Marlena would be at the top.”
Robert Scott Wilson (Alexander Kiriakis, ex-Ben Weston): “I am grateful, and I was astonished by how fast the Ben and Ciara [Victoria Konefal] story caught fire. It was very, very special. But when it comes to the biggest to me? I’d have to say the ultimate DAYS supercouple is John and Marlena, and Bo and Hope, too, of course.”
Doug & Julie
Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans): Doug and Julie. I didn’t understand about couples on soaps when I first started on DAYS. Shortly after I joined the show, [Doug and Julie] were being married on the show. Fans had come to the parking lot of the studio to see it. I soon realized that this is really a thing! I adore Susan. In that moment, I didn’t know her. It took a long time to shoot the scenes. At one point, she turned to all of us in the pews and said to us, ‘I know it’s taking a long time. Thank you for your patience.’ She was carrying the whole hour! What a woman. I love her.”
Bo & Hope
Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez): “Bo and Hope. There’s Marlena and John, too, of course, but I remember watching Bo and Hope the most. If I could watch DAYS over and watch a storyline, I’d love to watch theirs from the beginning. I saw the scene where he showed up at the church, and he took her away on the motorcycle. I’m hoping that happens to Gabi! That kind of love story is the heartbeat of a soap opera.”
Tom & Alice
Stephen Nichols (Steve “Patch” Johnson): “There are so many. I think we’re all of equal status – Patch and Kayla, Bo and Hope, and John and Marlena. But the ultimate couple is Tom and Alice Horton! They’re OG, baby!”
Suzanne Rogers (Maggie Horton): “Tom and Alice. That’s where it all began.”

Abigail Klein (Stephanie Johnson): “I mean, Steve and Kayla forever! They’re iconic. I’ve seen the footage of their wedding. The way Kayla said ‘I love you’ in sign language. Their chemistry is lightning in a bottle.”
Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark): “The first one that comes to mind is Kayla and Patch. It’s quintessential.”
Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis): “I love Xander and Sarah, of course, but I’m also a big Stayla fan. I’ve picked up the lingo. There’s some darkness. People say Xander and Sarah are like Victor and Maggie, but there’s some Steve and Kayla in there, too.”

Emily O’Brien (Gwen Rizczech): “I think right now, hands down, it’s Xander and Sarah.”
John-Paul Lavoisier (Philip Kiriakis): “I’m going to take the high road and say Xander and Sarah. They’re just great. The ups and downs, the push and pull. Xander and Sarah are just so cool.”
