When it comes to weddings, Outlander has had its fair share over the years, ranging from episode-encompassing festivities to less celebratory ceremonies.

While it’s difficult to forget the memorable union between World War II combat nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and 18th-century highlander Jamie (Sam Heughan), there have been a slew of other marriages featured in the Starz hit. But when it comes to ranking the events, there are clear winners over some more obvious duds.

Below, we’re ranking all of the weddings featured in the series so far starting with the worst and concluding with the best. Did your favorite make the top cut? Scroll down to get a closer peek and stay tuned for any potential additions as we look forward to the future of the time-traversing fantasy romance.

7. Mary Hawkins & Black Jack Randall

If we could possibly rank this any lower, we would. It’s undoubtedly the worst marriage from the series. Poor Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day) wed the villainous Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) as a dying wish for her true love, Alex Randall (Laurence Dobiesz). After finding herself pregnant with the ill man’s child out of wedlock, he begged her to marry his brother to receive financial support and any other spousal benefits. While it didn’t appear as though Mary would be subjected to Jack Black’s worst cruelties, this was definitely the one of the most sickening and saddening wedding ceremony in the show.

6. Lord John Grey & Claire Fraser

This horrible wedding ceremony isn’t the worst because at least neither of the characters is a true monster like the aforementioned Jack Black Randall, but Claire and Lord John Grey’s (David Berry) wedding in Season 7’s second half was no less sickening. Taking place shortly after Claire has been told that Jamie perished after his ship sank crossing the ocean, she’s forced to wed Lord John for safety as authorities express an interest in punishing her for seditious behavior. [Spoiler Alert] Jamie isn’t actually dead, which makes this wedding all the more problematic as it leads to a one-night tryst between his wife and best friend who were seeking comfort in their grief.

5. Claire Beauchamp & Frank Randall

In a flashback sequence set in the 1940s, Claire and Frank (Menzies) are on their way to meet his parents when he suggests they get married on the way. The pair decide to make it a courthouse affair that essentially plays out offscreen, making this one of the least memorable or special wedding ceremonies featured in the show.

4. Lizzie Wemyss & Josiah Beardsley

Although unconventional, Lizzie’s (Caitlin O’Ryan) relationship with the Beardsley twins, Josiah and Keziah (both played by Paul Gorman), is quite pure. When Jamie officiates a wedding between her and Josiah as a means to legitimize her unborn baby, belonging to one of the boys, Lizzie seeks out Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) to help her marry Keziah, with them unaware she’s already wed to Josiah. The non-flashy ceremony in the MacKenzie family’s cabin at Fraser’s Ridge is undeniably sweet and slightly comical considering the context, ranking it above some of the other weddings.

3. Fergus Fraser & Marsali MacKimmie

In Season 3, Jamie and Claire’s adoptive French son Fergus (César Domboy) reveals he’s been courting Jamie’s stepdaughter Marsali (Lauren Lyle) from his marriage to her mother Laoghaire (Nell Hudson). Initially resistant to the courtship, Jamie and Claire give their blessing on the way to Jamaica, holding a small ceremony on a remote island. In addition to the romance of the occasion, the event also makes way for Jamie’s official declaration of Fergus as his own son, giving him the name Fraser moments before the young man exchanges vows with his bride-to-be.

2. Brianna Randall & Roger MacKenzie

While they may have been handfasted, Brianna and Roger finally have their big wedding in Season 5’s opener, celebrating the event alongside her parents and other loved ones. Technically, this is the most traditional wedding by today’s standards that fans have seen onscreen in the series. The pure delight and celebration surrounding the ceremony make it one of the happiest events held in the show’s run.

1. Jamie Fraser & Claire Beauchamp Randall

Landing in the top spot is the forever-best wedding of Outlander‘s run. The aptly titled Season 1 episode, “The Wedding,” chronicles the events leading up to and after Jamie and Claire’s nuptials. While their marriage is arranged by Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish), there is no denying the connection between these two individuals hailing from two very different times. The actual ceremony, held in a dimmed candlelit kirk, is both beautiful and full of meaning that none of the other weddings have quite been able to achieve.
