‘Love Is Blind’: Monica Davis Breaks Down Her Venmo Drama With Ex Stephen Richardson
Monica Davis started her journey on Love Is Blind hoping to find the man of her dreams, and for a second, she thought that she had stumbled upon her Prince Charming, Stephen Richardson. But it wasn’t meant to be. Their relationship went downhill just a few weeks prior to heading down the altar.
They had a wonderful time in Mexico, but things quickly started to unravel when they returned to D.C. and had access to their phones again. Once away at a sleep test, Stephen, who claimed to be inebriated, sent explicit text messages to a woman he knew.
Finding out about this behavior deeply upset Monica. Taking matters into her own hands, she demanded he Venmo her back before he walked out of the room. When asked if she thought she wouldn’t get the money back, Monica told Swooon, “Hell no, I didn’t think I’d get my money back. Absolutely not.” The reason for that is, “I’ve had several ex-boyfriends who still owe me money.”
Monica revealed that he had to give her a “couple of hundred bucks” back, but why? “It was like little things that we were paying for as we moved into our home together,” she said. “Groceries, for sure. We did a big grocery haul to set ourselves up for going back to work and being in D.C. and then dinner.”
Stephen did end up actually sending the money, but only after breaking Monica’s heart.
He owned up to sexting another woman through DMs to Monica before they even got engaged. He had done that in his previous long-term relationship. When he first told Monica, she thought it was a “yellow flag,” purely because she appreciated the honesty. She has a history with cheaters, but the 37-year-old tech salesperson didn’t want to write Stephen off completely at the time.
“I don’t regret forgiving him and giving the relationship a shot, but yeah, I was really caught off guard when it ended up happening, the same exact thing to me,” she said.
