Bridgerton has become a phenomenon ever since the first season, based on Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I, broke records for Netflix in 2020. The streamer has already adapted two more novels from Quinn’s book series — The Viscount Who Loved Me and Romancing Mister Bridgerton — and Season 4 will tackle An Offer From a Gentleman, aka Benedict’s story.

The historical romance author’s main Bridgerton series consists of eight novels that tell the love stories of all the Bridgerton siblings, and she’s written a number of spinoffs and prequels. With the Bridgerton hype at an all-time high, is Quinn going to put pen to paper and release another book?

“You know, if I get the right story, yes,” she told The Charlotte Observer. “I mean, I love them so if I come up with a great story, that would be fabulous. I mean I’m never gonna write a book just to sort of trot the characters out, but if I come up with a great story, then absolutely.”

The New York Times bestselling author kicked off her Bridgerton journey in 2001 with The Duke and I, which chronicles Simon and Daphne’s love story.

Quinn’s inspiration for the Bridgerton family came when she was workshopping the character of Simon. “I had met somebody who had a pretty severe stutter and I was really kinda fascinated by it because I’m pretty chatty and was wondering what it would be like to have that much difficulty communicating,” she explained. “And so I did all this research in stuttering and then I ended up giving Simon this really terrible childhood because of it. And I just thought, you know, he deserves to marry into the best family ever, and that’s how the Bridgerton family came about.”

She entered the world of Regency era romance because she loved reading historical romances herself. “It was what I read for pleasure and so I think it just makes sense that when I went to write a novel I would write the type of books that I love,” she said.

Her third Bridgerton novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, serves as the basis for Season 4. Luke Thompson‘s Benedict will take center stage as he falls in love with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) after they meet at his mother’s masquerade ball.
