JoJo Siwa and Love Island star Chris Hughes formed an unlikely friendship on Celebrity Big Brother, and it has continued after the show ended. Amid their time in the Big Brother house, their close relationship had some fans wondering if Siwa crossed a line amid her then-romance with Kath Ebbs.
Fast forward to now, Siwa and Hughes are still fueling rumors about their relationship. The two are practically inseparable, and Siwa shared very cozy photos with Hughes as she posted about her 22nd birthday. (Hughes is 32.)

What happened between JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes on Big Brother?
It was a tough start for Siwa in the Celebrity Big Brother house after Mickey Rourke made homophobic comments about her. Hughes was a source of support for the 21-year-old, and the two began spending more time together.
With cameras filming the houseguests 24 hours a day, all of Siwa and Hughes’ interactions were publicized. It didn’t take long for fans to notice their touchy-feely behavior, which included cuddling in bed and cozying up to each other in the hot tub. Plus, Siwa made a bold statement about her sexuality that had viewers wondering if her feelings for Hughes, 32, were more than platonic.
“I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?” Siwa told costar Danny Beard, a RuPaul’s Drag Race UK alum. “I think that’s the thing. I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, and I think being here, I’ve realized, ‘Oh, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer.’ And I think that’s really cool.'”
It wasn’t just viewers who noticed things getting intimate between Siwa and Hughes. Beard warned the Dance Moms alum that she should be prepared for Ebbs to “throw some punches” when she gets home, but Siwa insisted that her partner “won’t care.” Then, after a flirty interaction between Siwa and Hughes in the hot tub, Beard warned them, “You two either need to f**k or stop. And your bird is about to pull you when you get out, you’ll have a front page spread in The Sun.”
Are JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs still together?
No, Siwa and Ebbs have broken up. Ebbs, who uses they/them pronouns, did not address the situation while Siwa was filming the show. However, their girlfriend got a glimpse of their feelings when the houseguests received letters from loved ones. The Nickelodeon star’s letter was from her mom and included a message from Ebbs.
“The most important thing to tell you is a message from Kath because I know you really miss them the most,” Siwa’s mom wrote. “The message is: ‘Kath’s keen to see you when you get out.'”
Siwa was upset over how impersonal the message from her partner was. “I think I’ve tried to keep myself distracted from missing sweet Kath,” she admitted. “I said goodbye to them at the airport, and it was a really hard goodbye. And then they were the last person I talked to before I gave up my phone for the Big Brother house. God, I love that little sucker. I do.”
However, she then added, “I do have beef to pick with them, though. They didn’t even say in the note that they love me. I will not let them live that down. I will say, ‘Where was my ‘Hi, sweetheart,’ where was my ‘I love you,’ where was my ‘I miss you?’ Like, happy you’re keen to see me when I get out of here, keen to see you as well, but come on baba, give me a little something something.”

One day after Siwa and Ebbs reunited post-filming, the Australian content creator confirmed that their relationship was over. They attended the finale live show to support Siwa but said that the dancer broke up with them that night. Ebbs said that she was in a “state of shock” and felt “humiliated” by what she watched unfold on the show.
During an April 28 interview on ITV’s This Morning, Siwa said it was “not the plan” to break up with Ebbs that night. “That was not an intention, that was not supposed to happen like that,” she said, while appearing on the show with Hughes. “Initially, I was told that the wrap party was something they didn’t want to attend and then about an hour into the wrap party they decided they wanted to. And so I was genuinely just going to have a conversation before and then it just led to another.”
Are JoJo Siwa and Chris Hughes dating?
Siwa and Hughes insisted that their relationship is strictly platonic. On the final night in the house, Siwa got emotional over the idea of having to say goodbye to Hughes. “I feel very grateful. I feel very confused,” she told him. “I feel very happy. … I feel very lucky. I feel guilty for how happy I’ve been. Like, I’ve been so happy. I told you, I do horrible with goodbyes.”
As usual, Hughes was very touchy as he comforted her. He also promised to send her a present once she got home. That weekend, they were spotted at golf and tennis club in the U.K. together.
During the joint This Morning interview, Hughes addressed where they stand now. “It’s hard to explain,” he said. “It’s just a really strong bond between two people, which is just a strong friendship. And I think you can have like a soulmate friendship. Having someone in there to go through an experience like that and have someone there every day when you’re emotional when you’re down when you’re happy. That was beautiful.”
Siwa added, “I don’t know any future of anything. But I’m really grateful for our dynamic that we have and our bond that we have. And whatever life does, life will do.”
On May 21, Siwa penned an emotional Instagram post for her 22nd birthday. “This years birthday week was more magical than anything🤍🪄. Full of surprises, family time, performing, chilling, laughing, loving, smiling, and good meaningful cries. Absolutely beautiful, wouldn’t change a single thing🤍 a week I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
The first photo in the Instagram carousel featured Siwa cuddling up to Hughes. In another photo, Siwa could be seen lying on Hughes’ chest. The Dance Moms alum also included a video of Hughes showing off the presents he got for her birthday. “My mum taught me how to wrap,” he said.

The day before, Hughes shared a carousel of photos on his Instagram page and wrote, “The previous 7 days have been the prettiest.” Hughes and Siwa traveled to Universal Orlando Resort’s new theme park, Universal Epic Universe. His photos included one of him and Siwa on the couch together. Siwa commented, “& happiest:). Heart is overflowing.”
