‘Off Campus’: Who Is Playing Hannah Wells? Ella Bright Takes Center Stage

While the hockey superstars at the heart of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series often get all the attention, the real ones know that the true backbone of the friend group, the romance, and the series as a whole is none other than Book (and Season) 1 lead, Hannah Wells.

Who is playing Hannah Wells in Off Campus?
By now, readers know that Bright is set to play Book 1 lead, Hannah Wells, alongside Belmont Cameli‘s Garrett Graham in the adaptation. Whether you read The Deal back in 2015, you’re new to the series, or somewhere in between, we love a good refresher, so we’re breaking down exactly what that means.

The 18-year-old’s character, Hannah, is a music major with a massive crush on a football player named Justin Kohl, portrayed by Josh Heuston. (Note: It appears that Justin will trade in his helmet for a microphone in the TV series, as he was described as the lead singer of a rock band and not a football player in the official casting announcement.) Naturally, her college’s most eligible bachelor, hockey superstar Garrett Graham, picks up on her crush and offers her a deal: He’ll help her get Justin’s attention if she’ll tutor him in their ethics class. What has Ella Bright been in before?
Bright’s biggest role outside of Off Campus is Darrell Rivers in the BBC’s Malory Towers. Unlike Off Campus’ steamy college romance, Malory Towers is based on a children’s book series by Enid Blyton. At the beginning of the six-season show, which takes place in England in the 1940s, Bright’s character leaves home to attend an all-girls’ boarding school after she is expelled from her previous school.

Aside from her work in Malory Towers, Bright might be most well known for portraying young Kate Middleton in The Crown. That being said, we’re thrilled to see Bright shine as the leading lady in this thoroughly romantic new series.
Where is Ella Bright from?
Ella Bright was born in New York, but her family moved to England soon after. During an interview with Island Magazine, she explained, “I find it cool that I get to tell people I was born in New York, as I have a British accent, so nobody would know. Both my parents have American accents, though, so sometimes it kind of throws people off when they hear us speak together!” During that interview, she also revealed that she loves reality TV and would definitely do a competition show if the opportunity arose. Can Ella Bright sing?
Of course, the first question that came to our mind when Bright was cast as Hannah was if she could sing. While we can’t find any video evidence of Bright singing, the actress has made it clear in multiple interviews throughout her young career that she loves to sing, write music, and play guitar. That being said, we have no doubt about Bright’s singing voice, and we cannot wait to hear her sing in Off Campus.
