Keep reading for the biggest takeaways from their conversation, including why Edward Bluemel and Mary Beth Barone call themselves “the worst couple of all time.”
How long were Mary Beth Barone and Edward Bluemel together?
If you were as locked in to My Lady Jane as we were back in 2024, you might’ve already done a deep dive into Bluemel and found out that he was linked to Barone. The two are believed to have first started dating in 2021. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Bluemel hinted at how their relationship started: “Using valentines day as an excuse to remind you that with the right DM you can also be the reason an American comedian you saw on Instagram knows what ‘Debenhams’ is ❤️,” he wrote in 2023, per Cosmopolitan.
Barone used the podcast episode to set the record straight on when they ended things, joking that her ex “won fumble of the year 2024.” She briefly spoke about being dumped during a talk show appearance in July, but clarified that she wasn’t calling out Bluemel. She said she dated someone else after their split, whom she has yet to publicly identify. When it comes to Bluemel, she said, “There’s no conspiracy theories.”
Why did Mary Beth Barone and Edward Bluemel break up?
Considering that they’re on good terms now — Barone tells her ex “everything still to this day” — why do the two think they’re the “worst couple of all time?”
The actors offered up a few anecdotes of their fights, explaining that they butted heads frequently. When Skinner tried to argue that he’d seen worse, Barone responded that their problems mostly manifested behind closed doors. “When it was goodm it was good, and when it was bad, it was so bad,” she said.
She went on to add, “Our relationship did permanent damage to my nervous system.” Barone clarified that it wasn’t Bluemel himself that had that impact, just their being together. “And that was both of us,” Bluemel chimed in. “It was 50-50.”
Long distance also took a toll on their relationship. “I wouldn’t go out with friends because I would just want to FaceTime and text,” she said, noting that she jumped into another long-distance relationship after their breakup. “Back-to-back long distance nearly killed me.”
Barone agreed when Bluemel noted, “It’s crazy when the person that you love is on the other side of the world for three months and you’re like, ‘What’s the point in any of this?'”
Though Barone brought up that Bluemel’s friends were concerned that she was too controlling, she thinks that their fights mostly came about because of them being apart so often. “The pressure was very high when we were together to be perfect and nice to each other,” Bluemel agreed.
Still, Barone reflected that they had a “very respectful” split in the end. To wrap the episode, Bluemel participated in their “what do you ride for” bit, answering that he was happy to see his ex and Skinner’s success over the past year.
“I stood by you both five long years and watched how hard you work,” he said, adding that he was right there with them when they were pitching Overcompensating. “It’s so nice to see since we broke up, actually, which I find it hard not to correlate in a weird way — the explosion.”
Could Mary Beth Barone and Edward Bluemel get back together?
A romantic future might not be totally out of the realm of possibility, based on Barone’s concluding comments. She said that the night before recording, they predicted they’d get back together a few years down the line. “When I’m 40, and he’s 38, we’ll probably get back together, but he’ll have a kid with someone else,” she mused, adding that they’d have a wedding ceremony but not do the paperwork.
