Are The Pitt fans one step closer to Kingdon? Season 2 has had no shortage of standout moments between Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) and Dr. Mel King (Taylor Dearden). The episode “5:00 p.m.” in particular, after Mel’s sister Becca (Tal Anderson) enters the fray. (Warning: Spoilers for The Pitt Season 2 ahead!)
When she’s getting treatment from Langdon in the ER, Becca tells him that she understands why Mel likes him so much. Kingdon hopefuls everywhere love to see it.
Langdon’s post-rehab return to the hospital is the one bright spot for Mel during an otherwise awful shift. Not only is she dealing with her deposition, but on top of it all, she finds out Becca has a secret boyfriend. Mel has been going through it since then, a major shift from how things started in Season 2. Remember when Mel cheerfully greeted her colleague at the start of his first shift back, earning some raised eyebrows from the other doctors? Those were the good ole days.
That same episode, a subtle detail sparked just as much buzz among fans, leading them to wonder if Langdon might have gotten divorced from his wife. At long last, the doctor gave an update on his marriage a whopping 10 episodes later. Keep reading for the full breakdown.
Is Langdon still married in The Pitt?
Langdon’s wife hasn’t left him, but it was a close call. In “5:00 p.m.,” Langdon finally decides to address the elephant in the room — otherwise known as a hostile Dr. Santos (Isa Briones). His apology to Santos doesn’t change her stance that he should’ve been fired for stealing pills from patients. In Season 1, Santos (Isa Briones) was the one to expose Langdon, prompting Robby (Noah Wyle) to kick him out of the ER.
Though he returns to help treat the Pittfest shooting victims in Episode 15, Season 2 reveals that Langdon has been away for 10 months, getting therapy and treatment for his addiction. As he arrives for his first shift back in his street clothes, Langdon is wearing his ring at one point, but then it vanishes. It reappears when he’s on the floor..
As Langdon opens his locker in Episode 1, his left hand is definitely wedding ring-less. In case you’re in need of a Season 1 refresher, Langdon briefly mentions his wife, Abby, and their two kids early on. Langdon’s home life is brought up when the doctor throws out the idea adopting a family puppy, but there wasn’t much else revealed about his relationship.

Back when the premiere aired, fans theorized that the ring detail meant that Langdon’s marriage hadn’t fared well over the past 10 months. “Maybe he puts it on at work to keep up appearances with coworkers and patients, but he knows the truth: his marriage is toast,” a fan commented on X.
Others have wondered if the ring’s appearance and disappearance could just be an error. “What EYE don’t understand is he was wearing in his street clothes with the ring ON but then had it OFF at the lockers and OFF with dana but then had it on again when he was getting his mel hug so ?3??33 is it continuity error or WHAT,” says one X post.
Ahead of Season 2, Ball teased the state of his character’s love life. In regard to Langdon’s marriage, he told Us Weekly, “Everything’s really great, and I’m really happy.”
Based on the “5:00 p.m.” episode, it seems Ball was attempting to misdirect fans. In his conversation with Santos, he says, “You don’t know what I’ve been through. My wife threatened to divorce me, OK? I almost lost my kids.” (Unsurprisingly, Santos has no pity for her coworker.)
