Which ‘Bridgerton’ Couple Should Get Their Own Spinoff? (POLL)
More Bridgerton is (probably) coming! We don’t mean the upcoming fourth, fifth, or sixth seasons of the Netflix Regency drama, though those are on the way. It’s been confirmed that more spinoffs are in the works — and Swooon wants to know which couple’s story you want to see.
We’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let’s lay out what we’re working with first. When Deadline asked if fans should expect more offshoots like 2023’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, director and executive producer Tom Verica answered, “Yes.”
“Queen Charlotte, we thoroughly enjoyed that experience. It was more of a smaller look at a particular love story that spanned over those episodes, and I think we kind of caught something that people really responded to,” he said at the Bridgerton Season 4 premiere on January 14. “So we are in talks of some other projects and hopefully, something, some news, something will be coming out at some point. Hopefully.”
Verica gave a little more insight into what’s coming down the pike: “I’ll say this, there have been characters that you have met before, ones that you were invested in, but again, we’re talking about different possibilities and, the great thing about having a cast this size is, there’s a lot of stories to dive into, but the particular ones we’re talking about, it’s going to be really, really enjoyable.”
Plenty of X users took to Deadline’s comments section to give their suggestions. Quite a few pointed out that they wanted to see more of Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as well as Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton). While we’d never say never, we think it’s far more likely for a couple that hasn’t got the main character treatment yet to be the subject of their own spinoff. (Not to burst anyone’s bubble.)
So, we’ve compiled some of the options. The first that sprung to our mind is Edmund (Rupert Evans) and Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), especially since author Julia Quinn has a prequel short story about her. There’s also Queen Charlotte’s Brimsley (Sam Clemmett) and Reynolds (Freddie Dennis), who had a sweet, secret romance but were forced apart due to their duties to the crown. We saw the present-day Brimsley (Hugh Sachs) dancing alone, but we never found out what exactly happened to Reynolds.
Though they never appear in the show, Kate’s parents could also be an interesting story. Though, we know it’ll end in tragedy, since her mother died when she was young and her father followed sometime between remarrying to Lady Mary (Shelley Conn) and the events of Season 2. Speaking of the Sharmas, Edwina’s (Charithra Chandran) romance with her new husband, Mr. Bagwell, could be sweet. It would be nice to see her get her happy ending after all of that drama in Season 2.
A prequel about Lady Portia (Polly Walker) and the late Lord Featherington (Ben Miller) would definitely be a lively affair, based on what we know of them already. The rise of working-class couple Will and Alice Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe and Emma Naomi) has been an intriguing side plot throughout Bridgerton, and there’s definitely enough material there for a spinoff.
Last but certainly not least, we got some of Lady Danbury’s (Adjoa Andoh) backstory in Queen Charlotte, but we’d love to see her find new love after her tragic affair with Violet’s dad, Lord Ledger (Keir Charles). So, which characters would you want to see take center stage? Weigh in using the poll below, and if you have another idea, share it in the comments!
