Will ‘P.D.’s Halstead & Upton Get Back Together in the One Chicago Crossover? (POLL)
What To Know
- The upcoming One Chicago crossover on March 4 will reunite Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos, bringing their characters Halstead and Upton back together on screen after both left Chicago P.D.
- The promo suggests they haven’t been in touch.
Upstead fans are not going to want to miss the upcoming One Chicago crossover. Not only are all three shows joining forces for the March 4 event, but it’s also bringing back Jesse Lee Soffer and Tracy Spiridakos. And while Halstead and Upton were divorced last we checked , and the promo suggests they have not gotten back together in the time both have been away, is there reason to hope this might change that?
Soffer was the first to exit, three years ago in Season 10. He took an army job tracking drug cartel targets. “Most recently, he’s been deep undercover, which leads him on a path to the same case that Upton is investigating,” NBC teases. When Spiridakos left at the end of Season 11, Upton was just looking to start over somewhere new, and now we know she’s an FBI agent who “joins her former P.D. allies after a drug enforcement task force case out of her Detroit field office leads her back to Chicago.”
Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. unite for a case involving a high-stakes emergency after a plane goes silent mid-air. (The action kicks off on Fire, as it tends to for these crossovers, then moves to Med and concludes on P.D.) Firehouse 51 is called to an airfield, and “their discovery cracks open a bigger and deadlier mystery — one with consequences that could ripple far beyond the runway and put countless lives in jeopardy,” the description teases.
The promo shows Halstead telling Upton it’s “good to see you.” That suggests that they haven’t been in touch, but we suppose we can’t rule out the possibility that they’ve just been busy with their respective jobs and have been apart but are already back together. Either way, we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not together at the start of the crossover, but there’s a suggestion of a romantic reunion by the end of it.
When Spiridakos left at the end of Season 11, executive producer Gwen Sigan told TV Insider that they did talk about bringing back and reuniting their characters.
“It was certainly a possibility for sure. We talked about it. We wanted to do our due diligence and go through all the options and see what was the most interesting. What we really came down to is that we wanted this to be about her. I wanted this to be a decision that she makes for herself and shows growth and something different for her. And so it felt like this was the appropriate way to do it and make it really internal and really personal to her of what she was doing,” she explained.
That was also why the show didn’t hint at an off-screen reunion for the characters. “I think we wanted to be honest to that storyline and to life in general,” said Sigan. “And I think a little bit of closure there was what also triggered her to go on this journey and to be able to look at herself differently and realize that she does still need to do work and that she does need an opportunity that allows her to do that in a different way than she’s had.”
But what do you think? Do you think Halstead and Upton will get back together? Should they? Let us know in the poll and comments section below.
