After things heated up between the Orlando belly dancer and her doctor bestie, the two made their connection official, becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. However, since making their relationship exclusive, Vanja has come to learn that there’s a big difference between her “Friend Tony” and her seemingly controlling “Boyfriend Tony.”

As of Episode 10 of Season 5, Vanja and Tony are still going strong, but the episode ended in the middle of an explosive argument between the couple on their dancing date, leaving their official status uncertain. After their Bachata lesson, Tony refused to dance with Vanja, claiming that it was more of a “night club” scene than he signed up for. After Tony told her, “I can’t participate in something I can’t do,” Vanja decided to dance with another man. In return, Tony confessed, “I just don’t see how that’s respectful.”
After Tony went over to interrupt Vanja and her new dance partner, she told viewers, “I don’t even know what this is. I mean, this could look like jealousy. This could look like control issues. We’re at a dance event. What do you think is going to transpire here? And the fact that he’s projecting this insecurity on me is not fair. It’s not right. I’m not going to stand for it.”
How did Vanja and Tony meet?
Vanja revealed earlier in the season that she met Tony at work. “A year and a half ago, he invited me to dance at his holiday party, and we ended up just hanging out after that as friends, like, all the time,” she explained. At the time, Tony was in a relationship. He revealed, “I actually had a very short marriage. And after my divorce, it took me a while before I could start thinking about even pursuing someone else again.”
What has Vanja said about her relationship with Tony?
Vanja recently shared some behind-the-scenes photos from her and Tony’s trip to visit her cousin Sanela in Maine. She told her followers, “A photo dump of fun happenings at my bday celebration in Maine. I loved celebrating my birthday with some of the most important people in my life! It was awesome introducing Tony to my family, meeting new people, and having fun with everyone.”

On April 1, Vanja pranked her followers, pretending that she and Tony had gotten married as an April Fool’s joke. She wrote, “Guess who just ELOPED!?!? Whooooaaaaaaa!!!! Can you believe it?!! I think the wedding glow looks great on us!”
Later, she realized that many had fallen for her prank, commenting, “April fools! Oh my God! You guys would believe anything! Lol.” In the comments, her fellow The Single Life star Cortney Reardanz confessed, “I believed it! lol I was like WTF?! When?! You didn’t tell me!!!”
