Kerry Washington Reacts to Fans Shipping Her & Tony Goldwyn In Real Life
What To Know
- Kerry Washington was a guest on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast on April 14.
- She addressed fans shipping her and Scandal costar Tony Goldwyn in real life.
- Both Washington and Goldwyn are married.
“This is like what the fans don’t want to hear,” Kerry Washington told Amy Poehler on the April 14 edition of the Good Hang podcast.
It’s no secret that Washington and her Scandal costar Tony Goldwyn, aka Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant III, had incredible onscreen chemistry. The Olitz romance was so good that fans have been shipping the actors, who are happily married to other people, for years. Washington spoke with Poehler about how she feels seeing some fans openly want her to be in a relationship with another man.
“I really am so grateful for the healthy relationships that I was able to have with the men on that show, like Scott Foley and Tony Goldwyn. I love their wives. They love my husband,” Washington said.
Poehler didn’t let the conversation die there. She brought up the fact that a subset of fans want Washington to be with Goldwyn in real life. The Imperfect Women star acknowledged that some fans “ship us so hard. And we, by the way, we like to f**k with people. I post stuff all the time with Tony.” (Washington and Goldwyn have gone viral for playing into the bit of Chase Infiniti and Tyriq Withers being their “Scandal kids.”)
The Scandal star agreed with Poehler that being able to joke around like that is a sign that everyone is “secure” in their marriages. “That’s the key,” Washington said.
The mom-of-three has been married to actor Nnamdi Asomugha since 2013. Goldwyn has been married to Jane Musky since 1987.
Washington doesn’t shy away from the Olitz (and Olake!) love that’s still in the air. “I love that people ship them. I love it. I love it so much. I love that people get into arguments, like Olake, Olitz, all that stuff. I love it. And I love that we gave people romance, that we gave people escapism,” she said.
Later on in the interview, Poehler told Washington that she spoke with Goldwyn earlier. “Did he tell you that he likes my husband better than he likes me? Because that’s the truth,” Washington quipped. Poehler added, “I’m obsessed with your husband,” to which Washington responded, “I am, too.”
