Maggie (Morgan Kohan) finds herself at a crossroads once again when Sullivan’s Crossing returns for Season 4. Just when Maggie and Cal (Chad Michael Murray) thought all their challenges were behind them, her secret ex-husband, Liam (Marcus Rosner), showed up at the end of last season. And guess what? He’s not going anywhere.

Liam’s surprise reappearance in Maggie’s life will rock her world in the fourth season of the cozy Canadian drama. Will Maggie and Cal’s relationship survive this latest obstacle? What really happened between Maggie and Liam? Morgan Kohan spoke with Swooon, and she teased important flashbacks that will show Maggie “in a different state of her life,” Cal’s reaction to Liam, and more.

At this point in time, does Maggie still have feelings for Liam?

Morgan Kohan: I think, off the bat, it’s just so out of the blue she doesn’t know how she feels. It’s completely unexpected, so we kind of figure out how Maggie’s feeling as she’s trying to figure out how she is feeling about it.

How much of Maggie and Liam’s past will we see through flashbacks?

Kohan: We’ve got a couple in there, and I think it’s really lovely. It’s really nice. It’s one thing to hear about someone’s past, but then to really see it and see Maggie in such a different light.

Are Liam and Cal polar opposites? Or do they have some similarities?

Kohan: I think they probably have some similarities. They’re very capable, confident, kind men who want to help and do good in the world, so I definitely think there are some similarities there.

What is Maggie’s mindset with Liam being in town and the Cal of it all?

Kohan: She has a lot to unpack and figure out because her version of what happens, his version of what happens, there’s always going to be some funny gray area. We kind of get to see that unravel as we go as well.

Maggie and Cal were in such a good place. Does Liam’s presence impact their relationship?

Kohan: It definitely does. I mean, for Maggie, it’s a shame. She’s finally getting grounded in their relationship. We’re getting to see Cal and Maggie settle into that version of their life and really moving from a rooted place. I think it definitely throws a big wrench in it for Maggie and for Cal, too, because he’s a very supportive, kind person who wants to see the best in everybody. So I think, no matter how strong anyone’s relationship is, it’s gonna throw a couple of feelings in there, you know?

Sully is still in Ireland. Will his continued absence be addressed?

Kohan: It’s kind of addressed throughout the season. We get to find out as an audience what’s going on.

How does Sully being off-screen this season shift things for Maggie and the show in general?

Kohan: He was definitely a support for Maggie, one of the big reasons for her to come back to the Crossing, too, right? So finally getting that father figure that she was wanting and to have that not as present in her life while all of this stuff is going on… I think she could use all the support she can get.
