Who Are Cher’s Kids? All About Her Sons & Secret Granddaughter

Cher had only ever played a grandmother onscreen — in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! — but it turns out, she actually was one when the movie came out in 2018. The singer, 79, recently found out that one of her sons fathered a child with former model Kayti Edwards. “When she heard the news, she was speechless,” Edwards told The U.S. Sun in an interview published on April 19.

“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” she added. Edwards went on to explain how she had a brief romance with Elijah Blue Allman 15 years ago, and he wasn’t involved in raising their daughter, Ever. She added, “Elijah and his wife always said Cher didn’t want to be a grandma and to keep Ever away, so I was nervous to introduce her, but it’s been nothing but a good experience.”

Chaz Bono

In 1969, Cher welcomed her first son, Chaz Bono, with her late husband Sonny Bono. “I always, always wanted to be a mother,” she said during a Dr. Phil appearance in 2004. “I’m proud of, in this lifetime, they both have got great morals. They tell the truth, they root for the underdog, they have respect for people. The things that my mom made me think were the most important things, my children have them.”

Cher and Sonny, who died in 1998, divorced in 1974. Before that, Chaz appeared on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour throughout his childhood. When he was a teenager, he earned an acting scholarship to LaGuardia High School in New York City.

When Chaz turned 40, he came out as a transgender man, which was the subject of the 2011 documentary Becoming Chaz. “My senior year of high school, I got cast as a male character, and for the first time, I really excelled. But I told myself, ‘This will never happen as a professional, so I need to find another career,'” he told People.

Following his turn on Dancing With the Stars in 2011, Chaz appeared in guest-star roles on Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. He’s since appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful and American Horror Story.

In March 2026, Chaz married Shara Blue Mathes. They met at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute decades ago, but didn’t reconnect and start dating until January 2017. “I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers,” Chaz, now 57, told People. “I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later.”

Elijah Blue Allman

In 1975, Cher married the late musician Gregg Allman, whom she would divorce three years after their son was born. Cher raised Elijah and his brother Chaz as a single mom. “His father was not there,” she said on Dr. Phil about Elijah, whose father dealt with drug addiction. “He never saw his dad.”

“I’ve seen my dad a lot more in the last year than I have in a long time,” Elijah said in a 2014 interview with The Daily Mail, three years before his dad died. “That was something that was absent when I was growing up and it’s important to mend fences now in our relationship.”

Elijah, who performed music under the stage name P. Exeter Blue and in the rock band Deadsy, married singer Marieangela “Angie” King in 2013. Elijah filed for divorce from King in 2021 and later dismissed it. It was that year that Elijah was reportedly hospitalized for an overdose, according to TMZ. “It wasn’t until 2021, when he overdosed on drugs, that he blurted out to his then-wife [King] that he had a child,” Edwards told The Sun. “This is what started the rumors in the family.”

In 2023, Cher filed for a conservatorship over Elijah. She claimed in court documents that Elijah was “unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues,” per People. Cher dismissed the petition in September 2024 before filing another in April 2026.

The court documents, as obtained by People, claim Elijah is “gravely disabled” and “has no concept of money.” He “is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence” because of his “severe mental health and addiction issues.”

In March 2026, Elijah was arrested twice. “[Elijah is] currently in custody in the State of New Hampshire in a locked psychiatric hospital in an attempt to restore him to competency to face criminal charges in two cases across two New Hampshire counties for: felony burglary criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass and breach of bail, but that is just the current set of problems,” court documents reveal.

Who is Cher’s granddaughter?

Cher’s granddaughter, Ever, lives on a ranch in Joshua Tree, California, with her mom. Edwards, who is the step-granddaughter of Julie Andrews, owns a horse rescue center. Ever, now a straight-A student, was born in 2010. “Elijah and I spent the night together, and I fell pregnant. He always knew from day one, but he never wanted to be a parent. He would pop in every couple of years but would just say hello.”

Edwards didn’t tell her daughter that Elijah was her father until March 2026. She told The Sun that her husband has been Ever’s “true father.” She added, “[Elijah] wanted to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn’t in any fit state. She thought he was just a family friend at that point.”

“[Elijah] came back into my life just recently,” Edwards continued. “I didn’t know anything about his state. But he asked me if he could come to Joshua Tree, as he needed to get out of Hollywood. As soon as he stepped out of the car, I knew he wasn’t well. A few weeks later, he overdosed and was hospitalized, and this was when Cher got in touch. She wanted to know what had happened, and then she asked me if it was true regarding Ever. That’s when I had to tell her the situation.”
