Exclusive Interview
‘Finding Her Edge’ Author Jennifer Iacopelli Spills New Season 2 Details
What To Know
- Author Jennifer Iacopelli confirmed in an interview with Swooon that her Finding Her Edge sequel and Season 2 of the adaptation will follow separate storylines.
- She confirmed that Season 2 of Finding Her Edge is currently in pre-production.
- Iacopelli shared her hopes for Adriana during Season 2.
While Jennifer Iacopelli is locked in on writing her Finding Her Edge sequel, On Thin Ice, Jeff Norton and the rest of the writers for the Netflix adaptation are working hard on Season 2. Recently, Iacopelli revealed to Swooon that On Thin Ice and Season 2 of the TV adaptation would not have any overlap. Now, she’s spilling everything she knows about the next season of the series.
According to Iacopelli, Norton recently told her that he was location scouting. She explained, “I think we’re in the pre-production stage, which is totally normal at this point.” While she’s not directly involved in the adaptation, she explained, “I feel like as soon as they get rolling, they’re probably going to shout it from the rooftops because the fan reaction has been so incredible. They’re not going to miss that moment.”
Iacopelli shared that she and the adaptation writers are currently writing with “deliberate blinders on.” That said, looking back at Season 1, Iacopelli shared, “I felt like the book and the show really felt thematically similar. They didn’t really play with the core and the root of who the characters were in the world. So I feel like that will probably continue, but we’ll just see two sort of diverging paths as they go along.”
Of course, Iacopelli isn’t privy to the Season 2 plot right now, but as the person who knows the Finding Her Edge characters best, she revealed her theories for when Adriana (Madelyn Keys) will go next. “I feel like we’re back with that beautiful love triangle that has everybody so up in arms. I feel like we’re probably back with Elise Russo [Alexandra Beaton]. I can’t wait to see what her plotline looks like. I’m excited because Riley [Millie Davis] is not injured [like she is at the end of the book]. She’s on the ice, she’s just there doing her thing. And I can’t wait to see how Adriana grows in the next season. She’s got to do a little bit of self-reflection.”

Netflix
It’s clear that TV Adriana will permanently diverge from book Adriana during Season 2, so we couldn’t help but ask Iacopelli what her hopes for Keys’ Adriana are now that she’s left the nest. She revealed, “I just spoke to Madelyn about this not that long ago. We talk about Adriana all the time because I feel like we’re the two experts.”
Iacopelli told Swooon, “I want Adriana to be a better friend. I think that’s core to who she wants to be in the book and the show, and I think she lost sight of that very much. And so I would like her to be a better friend in Season 2. I think that very much applies to Riley. She wants to work on her relationship with Maria [Alice Malakhov]. As hard as she tries, I’m not sure her relationship with Elise will ever be super, super functional. I’d like to see her stop trying to parent everyone around her, including herself, leave that to the adults in her life, and work on being a better person right now.”
