‘Running Point’: Are Isla & Jay Over? 3 Theories We Have About Season 3
What To Know
- Running Point Season 2 concluded with a major cliffhanger for Isla and Jay after they rekindled the spark that was lit in Season 1.
- Will Isla and Jay breakup after a shocking betrayal? We break down a few potential theories.
Running Point‘s second season finally explored that will-they-won’t-they romance between Los Angeles Waves owner, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson), and the team’s former head coach, Jay Brown (Jay Ellis), who returned to face off against the Waves, leading his Boston team in the playoffs. Warning: Spoilers for Running Point Season 2 ahead!
Acting on their previous attraction, Isla and Jay almost believed that they’d finally clicked at the right time after missing each other at certain moments in their past. Fresh off her breakup with fiancé Lev (Max Greenfield), Isla was more than ready to rekindle things after Season 1’s finale kiss, but she was led to believe Jay was dating Keke Palmer.
Thankfully, Jay cleared that up and clarified that he was single, allowing them to go the distance, but the playoffs proved to be a hurdle in their bond as Isla needed to guide the Waves to victory and Jay needed to prove himself as the coach of Boston’s team after his first year with them. Ultimately, the Waves won big, and it led to Season 2’s cliffhanger twist as Isla watched a newscast the morning after her victory, revealing that Jay had assembled with her ousted brother Cam (Justin Theroux) and Al Fleischman (Ken Marino) to bring the Los Angeles Industry team back to life in the city, putting them in direct opposition to the Waves.

Can Iris put her ire aside to continue her connection with Jay, or does this mean war? We’re breaking down three theories about where Running Point Season 3 could take the duo moving forward.
They stay together and have a forbidden romance
What’s steamier than forbidden love? Sure, Isla is mad at Jay now, but things have only just got started; it would be a shame to throw it all away. Perhaps the competition is what makes their relationship that much hotter? Only time and a renewal will tell as we await word on a potential third season. Considering the big part of Isla and Jay’s separation this season had to do with distance, his being in Los Angeles certainly takes that problem out of the equation. Even if they keep things casual, it feels like the door could still be open for this pair.
Isla moves on with Luke

Scott Speedman joined Season 2 of Running Point as Luke McShay, and to say there weren’t sparks flying between him and Isla would be a disservice to everyone. While their banter starts off in enemy territory, with his family being the owners of the LA Raptors, tenants of the Gordon family’s arena, their dynamic quickly shifts to potential lovers. The Raptors are also a hockey team, and we know how hot hockey-based romances can be… Should Isla explore this untapped area or leave it alone? We’re not opposed to the former.
Isla and Jay part ways
Perhaps Jay’s decision is just too big a betrayal for Isla to overcome, which would be understandable, and therefore, she decides to cut ties with him romantically. Despite the sad side this theory takes, we can’t imagine Isla and Jay would be completely out of each other’s lives. Perhaps they’ll stay friends? We’ll accept nothing less.
