Just one year after Joe Hunter first played Survivor, he’s back for another shot at the $1 million prize on the show’s milestone 50th season. Hunter finished in third place in Season 48 of Survivor in 2025 and is still in the running to be named Sole Survivor on Season 50.

Back at home, Hunter has the support of his wife, Kayte Christensen, amid his Survivor journey. The couple tied the knot in 2018 after a whirlwind engagement and baby announcement, but their relationship has not been without its ups and downs.

Scroll down to learn more about Hunter’s wife, family, and relationship, including what we know about the couple’s past breakup.

What does Kayte Christensen do for a living?

Christensen is a former professional basketball player and commentator for the Sacramento Kings.

Her WNBA career began in 2002 when she was selected for the Phoenix Mercury. After playing there for four seasons, she signed to the Houston Comets in 2006, but was waived before making the official roster. She rejoined the Mercury later that year, then became a free agent before signing with the Chicago Sky in 2007. Christensen played with the Sky one season before her pro career ended in 2008 due to a recurring back injury.

After more than a decade of working as a courtside reporter for the Kings, Christensen became the team’s television analyst in 2021. As a member of the Kings’ broadcasting team, Christensen won an Emmy Award for Outstanding On-Camera Talent-Sports-Play by Play/Analyst.

Are Joe Hunter and his wife still together?

Yes, despite previously going through a rough patch, Hunter and Christensen’s marriage is going strong. However, they were previously divorced for three years before getting back together in 2024.

“After nearly 3 years apart, a difficult and painful divorce and countless trials my husband and I reconciled,” Christensen shared in a 2024 Instagram post. “I don’t usually share personal things especially of this magnitude but I’m proud to share this one.”

She explained that the reconciliation happened after the two went to therapy to “be better co-parents,” then ended up putting their family back together.

Hunter also reminisced on the split in a May 2025 Instagram post, writing, “I reconciled with my wife after being divorced for three years. We recently had our anniversary and I could not be more proud of us. This was one of the hardest things either one of us has done, and it was so worth it. If you are struggling in your relationship, battling with a possibly divorce or just going through a really hard time, there is hope if you BOTH are willing to make it work.”

It appears that the two reconciled after Hunter returned from filming Survivor 48 in 2024. They got re-married in February 2025. “Real love has scars and is not always easy, but worth every second with the right person! I am SO PROUD of us, Happy 1 year ‘again’ anniversary!” Hunter wrote on Instagram one year later.

Does Joe Hunter have kids?

Yes, Hunter has two children. His son, Joseph Jr., was born in 2013, followed by daughter Jayde in 2018.

Hunter was already a father to Joseph Jr. when he started dating Christensen. “When we met you were already an amazing Father. And you trusted me with your most cherished gift in JoJo,” the former pro athlete wrote in a 2025 Facebook post.

Christensen was several months pregnant with Jayde when she and Hunter married in May 2025. “The last 6 months have been an absolute marathon! An engagement, a baby announcement, a new home and then on May 24th I married my best friend!” she wrote on Instagram in June 2018. “I couldn’t think of a better party to have in our new home Joseph.”
