- Kahan explained why he rarely mentions his wife in his songs.
As confessional as his songs are, Noah Kahan only occasionally writes about his wife. Upon the release of his new album, which features a rare love song, the singer has offered some insight into his private relationship in a new interview.
While he was working on The Great Divide, Kahan would look to his wife, Brenna Nolan, for reassurance that he was on the right path. In the May 5 profile, he also opened up about the track “We Go Way Back,” which is a tribute to Nolan.
“Once I’ve given everything to everybody, I was like, ‘Who am I actually behind all of it, when I log off or when I step offstage?’” he told Rolling Stone. “I understand people want to go deeper, and they want to know who [my songs] are about. I just have to create some boundaries.”
Kahan explained that Nolan prefers to stay out of the spotlight, which is why she isn’t often referenced in his songs. “My wife is very private and really desires that privacy, and doesn’t like having her life become something that everyone can look at or talk about,” he said. “That’s something that I’ve always respected about her, and it’s something I try really hard to maintain. It’s a work in progress of finding how much I want to share.”
Nolan, who was the inspiration behind Kahan’s Stick Season track “Forever,” has been photographed at several events with her husband over the years. She also recently appeared in Netflix’s Noah Kahan: Out of Body, in which she expressed her support for her husband. “I always knew you had it in you to make music a career for yourself,” Nolan told Kahan in the documentary, which also revealed that they got engaged in July 2023. Per People, they’ve been in each other’s lives for at least a decade.
The couple’s wedding took place in August 2025. “On behalf of the couple, who greatly value their privacy, we respectfully ask that no additional details, photos or video be shared publicly unless they choose to do so in their own time,” a representative told People.
Kahan first mentioned his engagement in an October 2o24 Instagram post. “To my fiancée, you’re the air I breathe, you are everything and whatever is left after that,” he wrote. “I could spend the rest of my life thanking you for getting me through this, and I promise I will. I love you to the moon and back.”
