Who Is Shania Twain’s Husband? Her Marriage & Relationship History
Shania Twain has been in the spotlight for more than 30 years, with her debut album, Shania Twain, releasing in 1993. Although she took a 15-year music hiatus from 2002 to 2017 due to vocal issues stemming from Lyme disease, she’s released two albums since her return, and has another one, Little Miss Twain, coming out this summer. She’s also hosting the ACM Awards on May 17.
Amid her success as a country/pop crossover artist, Twain’s personal life has also been thrust into the public eye, including her messy 2008 divorce and subsequent marriage.

Who is Shania Twain’s husband?
Twain’s husband is Frédéric Thiébaud. They got married in Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day 2011, less than two weeks after it was confirmed that they’d gotten engaged.
Thiébaud is an executive for Nestlé and runs operations for the brand in Switzerland. Due to her husband’s business, Twain’s primary residence is in Switzerland.

Why did Shania Twain and her first husband divorce?
Prior to her marriage to Thiébaud, Twain was married to her first husband Robert “Mutt” Lange from 1993 to 2008. Twain and Lange met after he heard her music and offered to work with her on writing and producing songs. The two grew close while working together over the phone and tied the knot in December 1993, just six months after they met in person for the first time.
The former couple separated in May 2008 after Lange’s alleged affair with Twain’s best friend Marie-Anne Thiébaud. Yes, her now-husband’s ex-wife. Twain and Thiébaud got together after the betrayals by their respective spouses. She did not know about the relationship until Lange filed for divorce.
“Fred’s so smart. This is one of the smartest people I know. He didn’t know [about the affair] either,” Twain said on the Armchair Expert podcast in 2023. “That helped me feel better. Neither of us saw it coming.”
But while Lange and Marie-Anne were having a secret relationship, Twain and Thiébaud were “not close” beforehand. “We didn’t have each other’s numbers,” Twain explained. “He was not really part of our daily lives because he’s working these crazy hours. A lot of travel, very high-profile company, just suit and tie. So he would be around at, like, weekend dinners and stuff like that. We would all eat together and that was it.”
Is Shania Twain’s ex-husband still with her best friend?
Yes, Lange and Marie-Anne are still together, Twain revealed in 2023. However, she no longer speaks to her former friend, and only communicates to her ex-husband about their son (more on that below).
“Mutt and I parent well together for people who don’t talk to each other,” Twain revealed. “We’ll just text. We both love our son so much, so we don’t play any games like that. We have the same priority, we share spaces for him. No nonsense there.”
Does Shania Twain have kids?
Twain and Lange share one child, a son named Eja, who was born in 2001. Eja mostly lives life out of the public eye, which is helped by his family’s main residence being in Switzerland.
In 2017, Twain revealed that her son is passionate about music, like his parents. “Every once in a while we get into the studio together,” she added in a 2021 interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan. “We send each other ideas.” However, his passion mostly lies in creating music, not performing it, she’s said.
She is also a stepmother to Thiébaud’s daughter Johanna. “I wish I had more children,” Twain admitted on Lorraine in 2017. “I have a beautiful stepdaughter and I have a beautiful son. I’m very happy. I just love being a parent and I would have loved to have had more kids.”
