‘Sheriff Country’: Should Mickey & Boone Get Together in Season 2? (POLL)

— 'Sheriff Country' Season 1 Episode 10

In the first season of the Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) had a couple of love interests and a strong contender who could go somewhere in the future. She and her ex-husband, Travis (Christopher Gorham), briefly got back together. She put herself out there with undercover DEA agent Alec (Wes Chatham), only for him to turn out to be dirty, as she learned in the Sheriff Country Season 1 finale. And there’s the possibility of what could be between her and her second-in-command, Boone (Matt Lauria).

There were moments sprinkled throughout the first season, but it was in Episode 18 that, after learning about Mickey and Alec, and when she pressed him, Boone blurted out to her, “I’m crazy about you, Mick. I’ve been crazy about you. You have to see that. I think I’m in love with you.” She replied, “I love you,” but added, “You’re my family. You’ll always be my family. That’s all it’s ever going to be.”

In the next episode, Mickey insisted they talk about it and admitted, without explicitly saying it, that she thought about it when they were partners. However, she reminded him that she was her boss. Then, the finale seemed to be setting her up to be the jealous one, after the reveal about Alec, when she saw him with ME Emmy (Jenny Raven), who hadn’t been shy about her interest in Boone.

According to Lauria, after what happened, especially since Mickey didn’t fill him in on her suspicions about Alec until he confronted her with his own, Boone is “100% moving on.” However, he noted to TV Insider, “I do know this. Boone loves Mickey with all his heart. Boone would take a bullet for her any day of the week and again next week and the XO crew are Boone’s family. We’re all each other’s family.”

He’s hoping to explore what the “wedge” between the two looks like, considering Alec shot him. “I really hope that we don’t gloss over that in Season 2. I was right about this dude the whole time and then ended up taking a bullet at his hands. I think there’s some ground to recover,” Lauria said. “I think what I love about the end of the season is that it’s complicated and you know, you’ve seen the bombshell. We’re not cruising into the second season like sunshine and rainbows. It is a freaking mess and shards are shattered on the floor and how do we go about putting it all back together?”

Showrunner Matt Lopez hasn’t ruled anything out.

“I think Mickey has to be asking herself, did I walk past a diamond to pick up a piece of coal?” he told us. “Boone confessed his love for her and that’s in [Episode] 18. And then in [Episode] 19, they have that moment in the file room where she says, ‘Look, I’d be lying if I said when we were deputies that I never…’ And she sort of trails off, but it’s pretty clear. You can see on Lauria’s face, he thinks this is a confession of love and it is, but she’s like, ‘But I’m your boss now.'” (Does that really matter?)

And after she saw him with Emmy in the hospital room in the finale, Lopez continued, “Mickey is going to have to look inward and realize, have I made a mistake?”

So, now, we have to ask the question: Should Mickey and Boone get together in Sheriff Country Season 2?

Well, we have to admit that we’re fully on board with these two as a couple, but it’s not the time just yet. Let’s see Mickey be jealous of Boone and Emmy in Season 2, even if they don’t actually get together (there’s no reason for Emmy to be part of a relationship that’s going to fail and end up with her hurt). Let’s see Mickey and Boone getting past what happened at the end of Season 1 and growing closer once again, perhaps with him being the one to help her figure out what her mother being alive and the DEA’s Eva Santos (Rachel Ticotin) means for her. Let’s slow-burn this a bit more.
