Get to Know Rainbow Wedell, the Actress ‘Off Campus’ Fans Hope Plays Sabrina

What To Know

  • Fans of Prime Video’s Off Campus series speculate that actress Rainbow Wedell has been cast as Sabrina James.
  • Sabrina is Tucker’s love interest in Elle Kennedy’s books.
  • Wedell has had social media interactions with the existing cast.

The internet investigators — aka the Off Campus fandom — are back at it again. Readers of Elle Kennedy’s hockey romance series have fallen in love with Prime Video’s adaptation and the actors playing their beloved characters. One of said characters, however, has yet to be officially cast in the series. Or has she?

Some fans have been paying close attention to the Off Campus cast’s social media activity, and some of their recent likes have led many to theorize that the adaptation has already found its Sabrina James in actress Rainbow Wedell. Sabrina doesn’t get a starring role until The Goal, which arrives fourth in Kennedy’s series and sees her fall in love with Tucker (Jalen Thomas Brooks), but Kennedy devotees know that she appears as early as Kennedy’s second book.

Wedell is followed by four members of the Off Campus cast, and Ella Bright and India Fowler are in the comments on her latest Instagram post, so that’s all it took for fans to start hoping that she’ll bring the ambitious Briar U student to life. Keep reading for everything we know about the actress and Sabrina’s casting.

Who is Rainbow Wedell?

Wedell is a 25-year-old actress who was born in Vanuatu and raised in Queensland, Australia. “Between growing up traveling, doing distance education, and starting university at 16, I grew up quickly, but in the best way,” she said in an interview with Numero Netherlands. “Distance learning really encouraged self-discipline and creativity. I had the space to read, imagine, and explore ideas deeply.”

She was 10 years old when she realized she wanted to be an actor. “I was asked to be a background actor on the sci-fi drama series Terra Nova, and it was honestly one of the best days of my life,” she told the magazine. “I remember walking onto set and feeling the energy. It was electric. There was this sense of family and collaboration that I’d never experienced before.”

Wedell also said that she’s most intrigued by “character-driven stories with real emotional depth.” (Sabrina’s arc definitely fits the bill.) “Anything that explores complex relationships and isn’t afraid to step into uncomfortable spaces,” she explained. “The roles that excite me most are layered characters who are flawed, and navigating genuine emotional stakes.”

What has Rainbow Wedell been in before?

Wedell is best known for starring in Paramount+’s supernatural teen drama School Spirits. She plays Claire, a cheerleader who comes across as a mean girl before becoming an ally to Maddie (Peyton List) and her group of outcast friends. The show is expected to start filming Season 4 in Vancouver this summer.

Other than School Spirits, Wedell is best known for playing Ruksy in The Bureau of Magical Things, which ran from 2018 to 2021.

Is Rainbow Wedell playing Sabrina in Off Campus?

Social media activity aside, we don’t know for sure yet who is playing Sabrina in the Prime Video series. It’s unclear if Off Campus is planning on leaving Sabrina’s first appearance and casting a surprise, similar to how it treated Charlie Evans’ Hunter Davenport in Season 1. But Evans wasn’t allowed to follow any of the cast on social media and vice versa before Season 1 dropped, and we know that’s already not the case with Wedell.

Will Sabrina be in Off Campus Season 2?

Sabrina does appear in books before her own. She’s introduced in Logan and Grace’s The Mistake as Dean’s (Stephen Kalyn) academic rival. It’s revealed that they once had a drunken hookup in Dean’s book, The Score. She also has a fling with Dean’s bestie, Beau (Khobe Clarke). Season 2 will primarily be based on The Score, so it’s possible Sabrina could be introduced in the upcoming episodes, but again, it has yet to be confirmed.

At Creation Entertainment‘s Page, Screen, and Everything in Between convention on May 10, Brooks gave Swooon an update about his character’s future love interest. “There have been chats [about Sabrina],” he said. “It’s something that everybody knows is on the way down the line. That’s one of the most beautiful things about this series, as it keeps going, is that after each season you’re gonna go and watch the previous seasons to realize how many Easter eggs are being dropped.”

“There’s even some mention of Sabrina in [season] one, if you really pay attention,” he added.
