Corey lives in Longwood, Florida, which is near Orlando. He splits his time between Florida and Houston, Texas, according to his Instagram.
What is Corey’s job?
In 2025, Corey was drafted to play professional basketball for the Mets de Guaynabo, a team based in Puerto Rico that competes in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league. It’s unclear if he’s still an active player, though it seems he doesn’t currently live in Puerto Rico.
Prior to the Mets de Guaynabo, Corey played college basketball for the Eastern Illinois Panthers. Between high school and college, he started playing in leagues with professional players in Puerto Rico, per the Daily Eastern News. Per the outlet, Corey was ranked the number one scorer on the island.
Instead of going professional after that experience, he went to college, starting at Cloud County Junior College in Kansas before going to Eastern Illinois. During his senior 2024-2025 season, Corey was sidelined for most of it due to an injury, according to his player page.

Growing up in Florida, Corey originally played football because of his dad, according to the Daily Eastern News. Sawyer Sr. was a defensive back for Florida State University and was drafted in the fourth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1994 NFL Draft. He played there for five seasons and finished his career with the New York Jets in 2000. He was there for one season.
Telling the Daily Eastern News of his pivot to basketball, Corey said, “I just realized I wanted to have my own name and my own path, and I had more fun playing basketball. It was the best of both worlds. I’ll be able to do my own thing, my own branch of athletics.”
How is Corey related to Daniela Ortiz Rivera?
Corey has more than one famous family member. He is the cousin of Love Island USA Season 6 bombshell Daniela Ortiz Rivera. On June 23, she shared an Instagram video discussing her cousin’s appearance on Love Island. “I’m so happy that he is [on the show] because he’s genuinely one of the best guys I know,” Daniela said. “He’s like my guy best friend, and I genuinely love him to death, so I’m really happy.”
She continued, “First of all, he does not have any kids. What he does have is nieces and nephews, which he does consider a lot of them, basically his kids. Maybe that’s just a Latino family thing.” Daniela explained that Corey’s been surrounded by women his whole life and has been like a big brother to her. He’s a “good man with good morals, “extremely family oriented, and a “goober,” she said.
