On June 16, Variety revealed that a movie based on Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me series is officially in the works at Warner Bros., nearly 15 years after the publication of Mafi’s original novel. For many, Shatter Me was a staple series during the 2010s dystopian YA boom, alongside The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner, and more. However, unlike her sister series, Shatter Me never received the adaptation fans had so desperately craved — until now.

What is Shatter Me about?
Shatter Me follows Juliette, a 17-year-old girl with a lethal touch, locked up by The Reestablishment, and starved for human connection. Everything changes when Juliette gets a roommate in her cell, a boy she remembers from her high school days. Told through Mafi’s incredibly unique prose, which serves as Juliette’s diary, full of repetition and crossed-out lines, readers come to find that the society that once feared her may come to see her as their most powerful — and dangerous — weapon yet.
When will Shatter Me be released?
Right now, there is no release date for Shatter Me. When the deal was announced, Mafi, who will serve as an executive producer, shared her excitement about the upcoming project, telling Variety, “I’ve been tremendously lucky to have a devoted fanbase over the last fifteen years, and I’m excited for the chance to bring the Shatter Me world and characters to life in a way that will honor the fans and their love for these books. Warner Bros. has been a great partner so far, and I’m looking forward to creating a memorable cinematic experience that elevates the series to new heights.”
Who has been cast in Shatter Me?

When the Shatter Me adaptation was announced, author Tahereh Mafi wrote on social media, “So happy to share that @warnerbros pictures has optioned the Shatter Me series for theatrical release! it’s always been tremendously important to me that any adaptation brings the story to life in a way that honors the fans who love these books and characters–and i really think we have the chance to make something great with this team. i’m coming on as an executive producer for this project, and i’ll be advocating for you always.”
