We’ve been hoarding details about Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) and Prince Henry’s (Nicholas Galitzine) future ever since we learned that Red, White & Royal Blue was getting a sequel movie and author Casey McQuiston was writing another book about them. But we can’t help but look even further ahead: Could a Red, White & Royal Blue movie trilogy be in the cards?
McQuiston worked as a screenwriter on the upcoming Red, White & Royal Wedding rom-com, and they’ve revealed a few plot details ahead of its release on Prime Video. In a June 2026 interview with ET, McQuiston shared a major update about the ending of the sequel, leading fans to believe that a third movie could be on the horizon. Will there be a Red, White & Royal Blue 3?
Prime Video hasn’t officially confirmed Red, White & Royal Blue 3, but McQuiston’s hinted that the sequel could set it up.
“I think the way we end it in this movie is a really hopeful ending, but it’s also an open-ended ending. Let me not say anything else,” the author said. “But I think definitely, we always want to leave the door open for more of their story.”
What’s more, McQuiston told Swooon earlier this year that the characters’ movie future wasn’t yet set in stone. Earlier this year, they shared an Instagram Story revealing Alex and Henry’s distant future in the book universe specifically. McQuiston explained that the book canon is separate from the movie canon, so they weren’t giving anything away about movie Alex and Henry’s story.
“Yeah, I think the movie future is to be determined,” they said.
Is there a third Red, White, & Royal Blue book?
Despite the different canons, you may be curious if a third Red, White & Royal Blue book is in the works. As of now, McQuiston has only confirmed a sequel novella called Red, White & Royal Blue: The Private Correspondence, which is due to be released in December 2026.
Spanning over 20 years after their relationship went public, the novella consists of Alex and Henry’s personal letters, postcards, and journal entries, promising “sarcastic bon mots to sexy fantasies to emotional discussions about starting a family, giving readers compelling insight into the long-term futures of Alex and Henry as well as beloved supporting characters.”
Many Red, White & Royal Blue fans already know that McQuiston added a bonus chapter in the collector’s edition of the first novel, which sees Alex and Henry engaged, living in Brooklyn, and making plans to move to Texas. In the aforementioned Instagram Story, McQuiston explained that the book characters eventually become girl dads and are “still living in Texas practicing law and writing and smashing.”
Any potential full-length sequel or third book they write won’t follow the plot of Red, White & Royal Wedding or a potential third movie.
“You can’t,” McQuiston told Swooon. “It’s like, legally important for them. They’re separate. And also, to me it’s important because I want to let the movie stand on its own. The film universe, to me, is its own thing now. To me, whatever happens in the books is, it’s just me and the characters. And that is something that I want to keep on this side of the road.”
