‘You+Me – Against the World’ Stars An Actual Princess: All About Prime Video’s New Romance

What To Know

  • You+Me – Against the World is Prime Video’s first French young adult film.
  • The movie stars Italian Princess Vittoria of Savoy, making her acting debut.
  • The story centers on a star-crossed, college-set romance.

You+Me – Against the World — aka Toi+Moi – Seuls Contre Tous in its original language — is sounding like it’ll scratch that Maxton Hall and My Fault: London itch. Prime Video’s next romance movie is its first French young adult Prime Original before it releases its first show in that category, Campus Drivers. Both tell swoonworthy love stories set in college, so it’ll also tide you over until Off Campus Season 2.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, You+Me is also based on a book, like most of the streamer’s romance offerings. It’s an adaptation of author Emma Green’s bestselling French-language novel of the same name (which will hopefully be translated into English soon). But making it more unique than others is that the film stars actual royalty. Intrigued? So were we. Get all the details about You+Me’s lead actress and real-life princess, release date, plot details, and more.

What is You+Me‘s release date?

September is going to be a strong month for romance book adaptation lovers. You+Me premieres on September 18 worldwide, in between Mercedes Ron’s Drawn Together and Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis.

Who is in the You+Me cast?

Vittoria Di Savoia will lead the film — and one day, she’ll also lead the Italian royal family. Vittoria, whose official title is Princess Vittoria of Savoy, is a direct descendant of Italy’s last king. The royal House of Savoy hasn’t had any real power since the monarchy was abolished decades ago, but the family is still a cultural figure. In 2021, the House of Savoy made headlines when the current head of the family, Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia, named his then 16-year-old granddaughter Vittoria his heir. Vittoria became the first woman in 1,000 years to be named the future royal figurehead, ABC reported in 2021.

Before then, though, she’ll make her acting debut. The 22-year-old, who grew up in Paris, has been in front of the camera for some modeling work before. She told Il Messaggero that she dropped out of university in London to work as a waitress and study acting. “I didn’t enjoy studying politics much and I immediately left university without telling my parents: I wanted to prove that I could make it on my own,” she said, per an English translation of the article. “To support myself, I found work in an art gallery and in a pub, where I waited tables and did a bit of everything, proudly claiming the opportunity to pay for my acting courses myself and to build my own path without relying on my surname.”

Playing her character’s love interest is Lucas Barski, who is also making his acting debut. Signed to agencies in New York, Paris, Milan, and more, Barski has modeled for big names like Calvin Klein and Versace. In 2021, he was nominated for Breakout Star in the Model of the Year awards. According to 16 Paris, he’s half French, half Italian, and based in Paris. He also composes music.

Behind the camera is SKAM France actress Manon Gaurin. She wrote the film alongside Eliane Vigneron and Alix Letribot.

What is You+Me about?

The movie follows 18-year-old Alma Lancaster, who has a perfect life and a wealthy family who believe she’s studying law. She secretly pursues her passion for filmmaking at university. It leads her to 20-year-old Vadim Arcadi, a troubled, loner rebel. Forced to collaborate on a film project, they clash before growing closer. But their budding romance faces obstacles when they discover that someone is determined to tear them apart. They’ll expose secrets that could destroy Alma and Vadim to achieve their goal.

Is the You+Me book available in English?

For now, the novel is only available in French. It’s possible that the movie adaptation will lead to a translation, similar to Mercedes Ron’s Culpable series.
