The WNBA star and Miami Heat player first sparked romance rumors in 2024, then confirmed they were dating on NBA All-Star Weekend in February 2025. “I’m in love,” Wilson previously told Vogue. “But I also have to credit Bam because he loves me properly. I think that doesn’t get talked about a lot. He loves me on my days where I don’t know if I love myself, and he does it in a way that’s not love-bombing. Yes, Wilson and Adebayo are still together. In fact, he recently teased an engagement coming in the near future. Adebayo appeared in the ESPN docuseries Life in the W in July and revealed that he’d asked Wilson’s father for permission to marry her.
Wilson is well aware of her boyfriend’s plans, noting that the ring design is “in the works.” She said she would “love to be” Adebayo’s wife and joked, “My ring finger is a little empty.” For the record, Wilson’s father gave Adebayo his blessing!
How did A’ja Wilson and Bam Adebayo meet?
Years before they started dating, Wilson and Adebayo “crossed paths a lot,” he told Uninterrupted. They followed each other on Instagram back when they were in college, “but it was just mutual hoopers following each other,” Wilson added.
The two never actually spoke until the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. Since the COVID-19 pandemic was still a concern at the time, the athletes couldn’t explore Japan, but the basketball teams were able to spend time in the hotel lounge together.
“It started off with an aggressive, competitive game of Uno,” Adebayo laughed. Once they got back to the United States, they “continued to chat and continued to be friends.” But soon their “easy” conversation “started to snowball to the point where it was kind of like … are we boyfriend/girlfriend at this point?” he added.
“The best thing about our relationship, we started out as great friends,” Adebayo told Time magazine in 2025. “We didn’t just jump to, ‘Hey, what’s up? You and I will make a great thing.’ Nah, we really eased into this.”
They kept things private for quite some time to avoid noise from the outside world. It wasn’t until their interactions around the time of the 2024 Olympics that fans began to catch on to the fact that they were an item.

No, they don’t have children yet, but Wilson told Time that kids are in their future. “That is always the dream,” she gushed. “This is my life partner. Honestly, what on earth was my world before you? That’s how much he’s impacted my life, my family’s life.”
