‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ Star Ashby Gentry on Alex’s Feelings for Kiley
What To Know
- In Season 3 of My Life with the Walter Boys, Alex steps back from pursuing Jackie.
- Alex finds himself in a new love triangle as he realizes romantic feelings for his best friend Kiley.
- Ashby Gentry explains if Alex is over Jackie, his feelings for Kiley, and more.
Ashby Gentry was “relieved” when he found out about the big twist in the My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 premiere. Since she was taken in by the Walter family, Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) has been torn between brothers Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex. In Season 3, Jackie wastes no time in getting into a relationship with Cole. (Warning: My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 spoilers ahead.)
Rather than compete for Jackie’s heart, Alex takes himself out of the running, knowing that Jackie and Cole love each other. Over the rest of the season, Alex gradually realizes he has not-so-platonic feelings for his best friend, Kiley (Mya Lowe), locking him into yet another love triangle with her and Dylan (Kolton Stewart). In a new interview with Swooon, Ashby Gentry breaks down Alex’s romantic journey in the latest season of the Netflix YA drama.
“I mean, I’m surprised he went back to her in the first place,” Gentry says of how he felt about the Jackie-Cole-Alex love triangle development. The actor himself is, like fans on TikTok say, “Team Cole for Jackie, Team Alex for me.” He adds, “I think it would be a bit ridiculous to drag it out even further, and so I think I give Alex props for being the bigger person in that situation. Yeah, [I felt] relief, but also sadness because I love shooting with Nikki and Noah, but I still see them around.”
He thinks Alex lies every time he tells the people in his life that he’s fine about breaking up with Jackie. “I think he’s moved past Jackie [in Season 3], but I don’t know if you ever come back from that fully. I think there will always be some sort of tension. I also don’t write the show. I think it’s over, but I don’t know. They could bring Jackie and Alex back at any second, so I have no clue. I think there’s always that lingering tension of like, is this over? Do I still like you?” he laughs. “That’s why I don’t hang out with my ex-girlfriends.”

Though the “seeds [were] sown in Season 1” when it came to Alex and Kiley’s romantic future, Gentry was still surprised about the direction Alex took this season. “I mean, there’s that whole scene at the end where he calls her a dude,” he says. “I feel like that’s pretty clear, but I had no clue when it was gonna happen. I mean, Episode 9, the kiss [between Alex and Kiley] definitely caught me by surprise. I was like, ‘Wow, okay, we’re doing this now.'”
It also catches Alex by surprise, according to the actor. Of when Alex fully realizes his interest in Kiley, Gentry admits, “I think it’s when he kisses her. I think he’s like, ‘Oh, guess we’re not platonic anymore. Yeah, it’s like that Chappell Roan song [‘Casual’].”
Alex calls their kiss a mistake at first before backtracking in the finale episode. Gentry continues, “I don’t think Alex realizes the depth of his own feelings, period. I do think that calling it a mistake is valid, though, given that she’s in a committed relationship, and so I think it was a bit a mixture of both of those things.”
Given that, Gentry isn’t quite sure if he’s rooting for Alex and Kiley yet, despite acknowledging that they’re cute together. “I don’t know if I can confidently condone that relationship until she’s out of her current one, but they get each other.”
Just as Alex is about to explain his feelings to Kiley, Dylan interrupts them, and Kiley ends the conversation. Now that he’s in yet another love triangle, Gentry jokes, “I’m zero and one, and so hopefully we can up the score to one and one.”
Gentry breaks down his Season 4 hopes for Alex, filming that finale scene between Alex and Kiley, and more in the video at the top of the page. Let us know your thoughts on Alex’s Season 3 arc in the comments below when you’ve finished watching!
