American Idol is a singing competition, but over the years, it’s also helped form romantic connections between some of its contestants. Over the course of 23 seasons, there have been some relationships that blossomed thanks to American Idol.

It remains to be seen whether we’ll get a love story out of the upcoming 24th season when it premieres in January, but as we look ahead to what’s to come, we’re also taking a trip down memory lane and catching up with some of the past couples from the show.

Some of these love stories began during filming (in fact, Season 16 included two showmances, one of which has lasted in the years since), while others came about after the stars’ journeys on American Idol ended. Scroll down for a look back at all of the American Idol couples and to find out which of these pairs are still together today.

It all started with Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini! The first season of American Idol came down to these two talented singers, with Clarkson walking away the champion. Fans speculated there was something romantic between them, but Clarkson didn’t reveal the truth until 2015 on Watch What Happens Live.

“We didn’t date during Idol, which everybody thought we were dating,” she revealed before adding, “We did date a little bit. Any two people who are thrown together that much … I’m just sayin.'”

It was just a fling, though, and didn’t last long.
