Every Year After Character Map

When it comes to book endgame couples, which showrunner Amy B. Harris told Swooon are “sacrosanct,” we have Percy and Sam, and Charlie (Michael Bradway) and Alice. While she doesn’t make a physical appearance during Season 1, Harris told us all about Alice’s scrapped Season 1 cameo.

Of course, we find out later in the season that Sam broke Percy’s heart after heading to an early college program, leading to her ill-thought-out hookup with his brother, Charlie. Ever the hookup guy, we also find out that Charlie has been getting cozy with Percy’s childhood friend, Delilah (Abigail Cowen), who had a major crush on him as a teen. She’s technically still married to Whit, her starter husband, but we never see him.

Speaking of crushes, Sam’s best friend, Jordie (Joseph Chiu), has always held a candle for Delilah. That said, when Chantal (Aurora Perrineau) comes to town with Percy in the present day, things take a turn. After living up the lake life with Jordie, Chantal calls things off with her fiancé, Drew (Karl Walcott), and starts exploring a relationship with Jordie. By the end of the season, Jordie has caught Delilah’s attention, too.

Read on to find out more about each relationship!

Sam & Charlie

At the core of the story are the Florek brothers. Brought to life by Matt Cornett and Michael Bradway, Sam and Charlie are together through thick and thin — until they aren’t. After Charlie makes a devastating mistake and can’t bring himself to tell Charlie about it, the two lose touch until their mother, Sue (Elisha Cuthbert), passes away.

Percy & Sam

Season 1 revolves around the decade-long love story between Sam Florek and Percy Fraser. From meeting as tweens to breaking up over email, these lovebirds go through it all. However, ultimately Percy comes home to Barry’s Bay and the two reunite. That is, after Percy spills a major secret about her past, and Sam breaks up with his girlfriend Taylor (Roan Curtis).

Percy & Charlie

No, this isn’t a Summer I Turned Pretty-style love triangle. That said, Charlie and Percy do hold one major secret: After spending an entire summer together when Sam left for college early, they slept together. Technically, Percy didn’t cheat on Sam because he told her that they needed to take a break, but this one stings from both directions when the truth comes out years later.

Charlie & Alice

While we haven’t met Alice Everly, Charlie’s One Golden Summer love interest, yet, the showrunner revealed to Swooon that she almost made a Season 1 appearance. In the sequel novel, Charlie falls for Alice, a photographer returning to Barry’s Bay after spending one summer there as a teen. While she’s had her life planned out, she never could have anticipated Charlie Florek.

Barry's Bay Besties

Percy and Sam aren’t the only ones looking for love in Barry’s Bay. During Season 1, we meet Sam’s best friend, Jordie, Percy’s current best friend, Chantal, and her childhood best friend, Delilah. While Jordie and Delilah are living in Barry’s Bay, Chantal visits with Percy for Sue’s funeral.

Delilah & Charlie

Since the first time she visited Barry’s Bay, Delilah has had a major crush on Charlie Florek. Now that her “starter husband” Whit has fled the scene, she’s been hooking up with Charlie. While he suggests that they could become more towards the end of the season, Delilah realizes that she doesn’t want him anymore.

Jordie, Chantal, & Delilah

While Delilah’s been crushing on Charlie, Jordie’s been crushing on Delilah. Barry’s Bay is truly full of yearners. It must be in the water.

While Chantal comes to Barry’s Bay engaged to Drew, spending time with Jordie illuminates what she wants in a relationship, causing her to call things off. She starts casually seeing Jordie, and the two make things more official at the end of the season. Of course, that’s when Delilah starts to return his years of pining. Not to be the harbingers of drama, but we’re hoping a Season 2 love triangle is on its way.
