Scrubs is gearing up for its fall return as Season 2 of ABC’s revival takes shape, but as casting is confirmed for the latest chapter, a question regarding J.D. (Zach Braff) and Elliot’s (Sarah Chalke) relationship remains. Will the on-again-off-again pair reunite?

As fans saw in the final episodes of the revival’s debut season, J.D. struck up a connection with Charlie, the relative of a patient he was treating at Sacred Heart Hospital. Played by Rachel Bilson, it’s been hinted that viewers will see a lot more of her character in Season 2 as the performer’s role has been upped to a recurring capacity.

The promotion hints at a more in-depth romantic relationship storyline, but does that mean an endgame looms on the horizon for J.D., or will familiar patterns resurface between him and Elliot? The pair kicked off the revival as divorced exes co-parenting a son together, but despite Elliot’s initially bristly attitude, things softened between her and J.D. by season’s end.
