The Flip Off fans were shocked to see Christina Haack ask ex-husband Ant Anstead to serve as a judge during the Wednesday, February 19, episode. The exes split in 2020 after less than two years of marriage and were involved in a custody battle over their son, Hudson, in 2022.

Although the legal war was was settled in December of that year, and the pair agreed to share joint legal and physical custody, things remained contentious between them. However, there was a shift in their co-parenting relationship in 2024, and Christina explained why on The Flip Off.

“Between the time of [Hudson’s] first birthday and I would say his fifth birthday, we did not communicate a lot,” Christina admitted. “After Josh [Hall] and I split up, I went over to [Ant’s] house to pick up Hudson because I was taking him to a birthday party, and when I walked up to the door he gave me a huge hug. We hadn’t hugged in years. He just said, ‘I’m so sorry for everything you’re going through, and I’m here for you no matter what you need.’ It was a very nice moment.”

After Ant made the gesture, the two had a “long talk” and “decided to put all the BS aside and be good co-parents.” Both stars have experience with co-parenting, as Christina also shares two children with Tarek El Moussa, and Ant has two kids with Louise Storey.

Ant agreed to judge the renovated guest bedrooms and bathrooms in Christina and Tarek’s homes. Tarek also opened up about his history with Ant during the episode.

“I remember [Christina and Ant] were dating for a few months, and I’ll never forget this night, I was on my bed scrolling social media and there it was. A picture of her and Ant and it says, ‘Just married,'” Tarek recalled. “I didn’t know anything about it. I sent Ant a message and I said, ‘Please treat my kids as your own.’ He never responded, by the way.”

However, the men connected after Ant and Christina split. “He reached out to me and vented to me and over time we actually started building a relationship,” Tarek shared. “I feel like my relationship with him has been way better than his and Christina’s over the years.”

Regardless, Ant’s loyalty was with Christina. Although he declared that the guest bedroom renovations were a tie between the exes, he ultimately chose Christina as the winner because of their history.

“The relationship that we have now is really, really important,” Ant admitted. “And it’s been a transformation. It took four and a half years to get to that point, which is really shameful. [We] will be connected forever because we have a kid. So ultimately, I have to stand by the mother of my kid. It’s not going to be something that you want to hear because, unfortunately, it puts Christina and me on the same team forever. So, unfortunately, this judge is swayed. My parents raised me and said, ‘Your family, you stick with your family.’ Regardless of rules, regardless of performance, when I left the house this morning, Christina had already won.”
