‘Freakier Friday’: Does Anna End Up With Jake or Eric?

Freakier Friday may go heavy on the comedy, but that doesn’t mean it completely sidesteps romance. Remember Chad Michael Murray‘s motorcycle-driving, leather jacket-wearing love interest in 2003’s Freaky Friday? We sure do.
Lindsay Lohan‘s Anna and Jake were endgame in the first movie, which is why we were disappointed when the trailer for the sequel revealed that they parted ways. But when Anna and her mom, Jamie Lee Curtis‘ Tess, switch bodies with the two youngest members of their blended family (Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons), the teenagers figure that reuniting “Anna” with Jake will help them break up their parents. (Is that you, The Parent Trap?) They suspect Anna still has feelings for her old flame.
But the who is other man competing for Anna’s heart? That would be none other than Manny Jacinto‘s Eric, a British chef and single dad who’s relocated to California. The events of the movie unfold right before Eric and Anna are set to say “I do.” Their daughters are desperate to stop their wedding, lest one of them is forced to relocate permanently to London or Los Angeles. It proves difficult because, for all intents and purposes, Eric has zero red flags. He’s head-over-heels in love with his fiancée. (Yes, we swooned multiple times.)

Who does Anna end up with in Freakier Friday?
When Anna’s daughter, Harper, learns that her mom has written a secret love song, she guesses that it’s about her high school boyfriend. In her mom’s body, Harper sets out with her almost-stepsister (who swapped places with Tess) to win Jake back. For most of the movie, we’re also led to assume that Anna might not be over Jake — until the end. Anna reveals that the song is actually about her relationship with Harper.

If you already guessed that Anna ends up with her new love, you’re right! Long story short, when their two daughters go from enemies to friends, they also realize that their parents are perfect for each other. With everyone onboard with their impending nuptials and back in their bodies, Anna and Eric get hitched in the final scene.
Who does Jake end up with in Freakier Friday?
Where does that leave Jake? Well, Freakiest Friday had the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever with his character, and they took it.
You weren’t imagining things if you noticed the chemistry between Anna’s mom and Jake in the first movie. Sure, we can chalk it up to the fact that it’s really Anna in Tess’ body, but Jake seems way too into her. Our intuition was on-point, because in Freakier Friday, Jake blatantly has the hots for Tess, even though she’s technically not herself. In fact, he couldn’t seem less interested in Anna.
Though nothing comes of it — Tess remains happily married to Mark Harmon’s Ryan from the first movie — the gag continues at the end. Jake attends Anna’s wedding, and his date is a lookalike of younger Tess, red pixie cut and all. It’s bad news if you’re an Anna and Jake shipper, but you have to admit, it’s kind of a perfect arc for Jake’s character.
