What To Know

  • Boys of Tommen, based on Chloe Walsh’s popular romance series, is being adapted into a TV show for Prime Video.
  • The first book follows the forbidden romance between Johnny Kavanagh and Shannon Lynch at an Irish private school.
  • Poppy Cogan will serve as lead writer and executive producer alongside Walsh.

Boys of Tommen has found its Shannon and Johnny! Readers of Chloe Walsh’s series of the same name first fell in love with the couple and their heartbreaking backstories when Binding 13 came out in 2018. Now, their story is making its way to Prime Video as a TV series, which will introduce viewers to the world of Tommen College. The prestigious Irish private school is the backdrop for the romances of different couples within the same friend group.

Walsh’s romance series has taken off in the BookTok community, so as soon as the adaptation was announced in February 2026, many were eager to know who’d play Johnny, Shannon, and the rest of the crew. On May 15, Prime Video didn’t just reveal the actors playing the leading couple, but also who will be starring as Joey and Aoife, who eventually get their own book.

Swooon has gathered all the latest updates on the series, including the release date, cast, and more below.

What is Boys of Tommen’s premiere date?

When the series was announced, Deadline reported that production is slated to start in 2026. The show could drop sometime in 2027, depending on when filming begins. Presumably, Boys of Tommen will follow Prime Video’s standard rollout for a new show, releasing all eight episodes of Season 1 at once.

What is Boys of Tommen about?

Season 1 has been confirmed to cover the events of Walsh’s two novels, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Set in 2005, both books follow Johnny Kavanagh, a star rugby player bound for the pros, and Shannon Lynch, a new student at Tommen College. She’s smart and strong, but severely shy. Despite coming from opposite worlds, they’re drawn to each other. They’re also both keeping secrets: Johnny has a potentially career-ending injury, and Shannon was bullied at her previous school and abused at home.

“It’s just an unbelievable constellation of characters, but it’s also got such a specificity for place and the time,” Prime Video executive Nicole Clemens told Deadline. “It talks about abuse, about bullying, about mental health, and it’s about love. It’s a romance series.”

There are six books total in the series, and Clemens already addressed the possibility of capturing the entire breadth of the story. “Who knows how many we do, but hopefully it goes for a long time,” she told Deadline. “There’s plenty of material and plenty of incredible, rich characters.”

Who is in the Boys of Tommen cast?

Newcomer Nancy Surridge will appear as Shannon, and Conor Sánchez (Mix Tape) will star opposite her as Johnny. Shannon’s troubled but protective older brother, Joey Lynch, will be brought to life by James O’Donoghue. Sophie McGibbon will play his love interest, Aoife Molloy. Boys of Tommen director Brendan Canty said per Advanced Television, “To do justice to the world they’ve created, we knew that finding the right cast was going to be everything. We searched far and wide, receiving over 3000 casting suggestions from across the UK and Ireland, but from the moment Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie walked into the room, it was clear we’d found something beyond special. Each of them brings the spirit and emotional depth this story demands, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring Chloe’s world to the screen with this extraordinary young cast.”

“These characters have lived in the hearts and minds of millions of readers, and the response to them has been overwhelming, so finding the right cast was incredibly important,” added executive producer Poppy Cogan, per Advanced Television. “Chloe has created such a rich, emotionally vivid world in these books, and as the writer adapting this story for screen it’s been a privilege to be entrusted with bringing that world to life. I’m thrilled beyond words that we’ve found our Shannon, Johnny, Joey and Aoife in Nancy, Conor, James and Sophie — they are the perfect people to embody these roles.”

Who is making Boys of Tommen?

Cogan (A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) is the show’s lead writer and executive producer. Walsh, as mentioned, will executive produce alongside Cogan. Brendan Canty (Christy) will direct, and Ingrid Goodwin has signed on as a producer.

Drama Republic, Temple Hill, and wiip are producing with Amazon MGM Studios. The rest of the production team includes wiip’s Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Sean Flanagan, Temple Hill’s Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, James Seidman, and Annika Patten, and Drama Republic’s Greg Brenman and Deena Butt.

“The response from readers around the world has been overwhelming and knowing that everyone behind this production and book shares my passion for telling this story authentically means the world to me,” the Boys of Tommen author said.
