‘Devil Wears Prada 2′: Who Is Andy Sachs’ New Love Interest?
What To Know
- The Devil Wears Prada 2 sees Andy Sachs, now more confident and mature, navigating the challenges of a declining magazine industry.
- Andy develops a new romance with Peter in the sequel.
- Peter replaces her controversial ex-boyfriend from the first movie.
Andrea “Andy” Sachs (Anne Hathaway) has upgraded in her professional and personal life. Twenty years after the events of The Devil Wears Prada, a more confident, mature Andy will reunite with Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) in the sequel. While they navigate a declining magazine publishing industry, Andy also finds a new love interest.
Many fans assumed as much when Hathaway was spotted filming romantic scenes on set last year. Patrick Brammall, who plays the love interest in question, told Vanity Fair, “To have so many people watching it, filming, and paparazzi and security detail—that was pretty mental. Fortunately, Annie seemed pretty unflappable about it.”
After Andy’s boyfriend in the first movie, Nate (Adrian Grenier), became so controversial, we don’t blame you if you’re curious about the new character vying for her affection. Below, we’re breaking down everything we know about the character and actor. Plus, get a refresher on why Nate didn’t return for the sequel.
Who is Andy’s new boyfriend in The Devil Wears Prada 2?
Brammall plays Peter, a divorced Australian contractor whom Andy meets while looking for a new apartment. “I feel like I belong in the movie,” the actor told Vanity Fair. “The function of that character is to be a supportive guy for Andy Sachs. It’s a nice, easy chemistry. I mean, it’s very easy working with Annie. She’s so available and present in the scene. She’s the real deal.”
Who is Patrick Brammall?
Brammall, 50, had his first screen role in 2004’s Australian TV movie The Alice and also appeared in its TV spinoff. He went on to book the Australian soap Home and Away in 2007. He’s since become known for his roles in TV series like Glitch and Evil, though he’s become best recognized for cocreating and starring in Paramount+’s rom-com series Colin from Accounts in 2022.
Brammall’s wife, Harriet Dyer, is also behind Colin from Accounts, which recently wrapped its third (and potentially final) season. She cowrites and costars alongside her husband, who is 13 years older than her. They met in 2015 on the set of the Australian comedy No Activity and have welcomed two kids since. (Dyer has also posted a video about her husband’s new role, poking fun at herself as she processes him playing Hathaway’s love interest.)

The actor says The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a turning point in his career. “I look at the last six weeks of my life — in that time, we wrapped season three of Colin From Accounts, I turned 50, Hari and I clocked up five years married,” he told Vanity Fair. “I did this Devil Wears Prada premiere. Like, what is my f**king life? This is one of those rare moments when you get to stand on the peak and look down at the valley. But when you’re in it, you’re just cutting branches with a hatchet.”
What happened to Nate in The Devil Wears Prada?
Grenier does not return in the sequel movie, even as an ex-boyfriend. Nate breaks up with Andy after she misses his birthday celebration for work. They smooth things over more or less by the end of the movie, though they don’t get back together. Nate leaves New York when he lands a job as a sous chef in Boston.
Fans have since determined that Nate is the “villain” of the first movie, something that Grenier agrees with. “I didn’t see some of the subtleties and the nuance of this character and what it represented in the film until the wisdom of the masses came online and started to push against the character and throw him under the bus, and I got flak,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “In many ways, he’s very selfish and self-involved. It was all about him; he wasn’t extending himself to support Andy in her career.”
