On April 29, Universal Pictures released the trailer for their upcoming movie from the director of Anyone But You and Easy A, One Night Only, starring Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro. One Night Only follows Allie (Barbaro) and Owen (Turner), “two love-starved strangers who crash into each other in an ever-so-slightly fictionalized New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex.”

What is One Night Only about?
One Night Only takes place on “the least romantic night of the year,” the only night when singles are legally allowed to have sex. Universal teases, “Recently dumped Owen and hopeful romantic Allie might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter. They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think.”

So, what is this movie actually about? From the trailer, we can tell that Owen and Allie have an instant connection, culminating in her arriving at his pizza place late at night. As the clock rewinds 10 hours, the duo is shown separately, begrudging the sexy quasi-holiday, surrounded by singles getting it on all across the city. When the two bump into each other, they question, “What about us?” before proceeding to share some A+ banter. Did we mention their sexual chemistry is off the charts?
Who has been cast in One Night Only?
Monica Barbaro, from A Complete Unknown, and Callum Turner, from Eternity, star in One Night Only. They are joined by an incredible supporting cast that includes Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Julia Fox (Uncut Gems), indie pop sensation King Princess (Nine Perfect Strangers), Ben Marshall (Saturday Night Live), Ziwe, Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club), and Levar Burton (Reading Rainbow). Okieriete Onaodowan from the original Hamilton cast, and the band Haim’s Este Haim are also featured in the film.

One Night Only was cowritten, directed, and produced by Will Gluck, the director of rom-com favorites Anyone But You and Easy A. The script was penned by Travis Braun, a screenwriter behind multiple children’s shows, including Muppet Babies. The film is produced by Gluck’s company, Olive Bridge Entertainment, and their VP, Jacqueline Monetta.
