‘Kentucky Roses’ Duo Andrew Walker & Odette Annable Guess: Horse or Hallmark Movie? (VIDEO)

What To Know

  • Andrew Walker and Odette Annable star in the new Hallmark movie Kentucky Roses.
  • The movie was filmed on location in Kentucky.
  • During their Swooon digital cover shoot, the costars had to guess whether names were Kentucky Derby horses or Hallmark movies.

When looking at the list of Kentucky Derby horses’ names, we realized that many of them sounded very familiar. It took us a moment to figure out why, but we did. They sounded like they could be the names of Hallmark movies.

Swooon’s latest digital cover story features Andrew Walker and Odette Annable of Kentucky Roses, a new Hallmark romance set against the backdrop of the Kentucky Derby — and airing on Derby Day. Swooon decided to put Walker and Annable to the test. Could they figure out which names were actually Hallmark movies and which were Kentucky Derby horse names?

Before they started horsing around for our Horse or Hallmark game, Walker asked Annable if she was ready. “I was born ready,” the actress quipped.

The first name they were given was Life’s Magic. Walker had a hunch the name could be a Hallmark movie title, so he was surprised to learn it was actually the name of a horse. Annable was tasked with deciding if As Luck Would Have It was a Hallmark movie or a horse’s name. Ahead of her Hallmark Channel debut, the actress showed she’s got great instincts. She correctly guessed that the name was a Hallmark movie.

The Horse or Hallmark competition was a thrilling race to the finish, with plenty of twists and turns. In the end, Annable walked away the winner after what Walker dubbed a “tough game.” Annable declared, “I’m in the Hallmark family now.”

Kentucky Roses marks Annable’s first Hallmark movie, and she couldn’t have had a better first experience. “I always say everything in life is timing, and all of the pieces came together beautifully,” she told Swooon. “It all worked out. The script is so amazing and fresh and timeless. Andrew is such a pro. I was so happy that we got to work together. And we have the beautiful Churchill Downs as a backdrop. What more could you want?”
