What To Know

  • Brooks Rosser and Rae Boyd returned to American Idol during the Season 24 finale.
  • They were seen slow dancing while Brad Paisley performed during the show.
  • The singers previously confirmed their relationship on the April 20 episode.

Brooks Rosser and Rae Boyd returned to the American Idol stage during the May 11 finale. Following their eliminations earlier this season, the couple was back on television screens together for the first time since they confirmed their relationship on April 20.

After Rae performed with En Vogue, she reunited with Brooks and they watched the rest of the show together. When Lucas Leon and Brad Paisley performed a rendition of “I’m Gonna Miss Her,” cameras panned to the couple dancing together on the side of the stage.

Brooks and Rae were eliminated during the Top 7 and Top 11 episodes, respectively, but they walked away from the show with something even more important: their love for one another! After meeting during auditions last fall, the young singers became fast friends, then connected romantically while they were back home in Maryland before the Live Shows began in March. (Brooks and Rae are both from the Baltimore area).

Fans had been speculating about the romance for a few weeks when the duo confirmed the news that they were dating. After Brooks’ Top 9 performance, Rae surprised him on stage and told the crowd, “The princess is here to claim her prince!”

She later told Swooon,”After I got eliminated [on April 14], that’s when everyone found out. We’ve made friends with everyone in the Idol family – the contestants, the producers, everyone. So when they found out we were dating, they were like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is so fun and exciting.’ So everyone just got excited about it. There’s so much negativity in the world, so when there’s a love story, it’s like … everyone just wants to hear about it and highlight that stuff.”

Of the decision to hard-launch on the show, she also explained, “When you have a partner, I feel like you just want to shout out to the world that you’re together. We weren’t able to do that for a little while, so after we were like, ‘Finally! We can tell the world.'”

Now, the two are looking forward to having a “normal relationship,” while also pursuing their individual music careers. “We both have our careers to look forward to,” Rae pointed out. “So [we’re] staying focused in that regard.”
