Kelsey Swanson and Rosie DiMare’s blowout fight exploded on a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island, and some shocking accusations were hurled. One of those was from Kelsey, who claimed that Rosie had an affair with a married basketball coach who allegedly paid her off to not talk about it.

Rosie has vehemently denied the rumors, but that hasn’t stopped Bravo fans from doing some digging. Fans linked Rosie to coach Ed Cooley, and Dave Portnoy perpetuated the rumor in a TikTok video that went viral. (However, Portnoy reiterated in the clip that he does not know if there’s validity to the affair allegations.)

Scroll down to learn more about Ed and to find out what Rosie had to say about these accusations.

Did Rosie DiMare have an affair with Ed Cooley?

Rosie has insisted that the rumors about her and Ed are not true. “First and foremost, I do not know Ed Cooley. I have never met Ed Cooley. I have never been in a car with Ed Cooley. I have never had an affair with Ed Cooley,” she said in a May 26 Instagram video.

She continued, “He has never paid me money. He has never bought a house for me. I actually just don’t know him. I have never met him.”

Rosie also denied allegations that she had an affair with a higher-up at the news outlet she worked for, which led to her getting fired from the company. “I’ve never had an affair with anyone,” she insisted.  “I’ve never had an affair with a coworker. I’ve never had an affair with a higher-up. And actually, I’ve never gotten fired.”

She then showed photos of her contract and correspondence with HR to prove that she left the station after going on medical leave. “When medical leave was over, I asked to leave, as clearly stated in this document,” Rosie pointed out.

Who is Ed Cooley?

Ed is a college basketball coach. After playing basketball in high school and college, he began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

His first head coaching gig was in 2006 for Fairfield. He stayed with the program until 2011 when he began coaching at Providence College in his Rhode Island hometown. When Ed seemingly abruptly decided to leave Providence in 2023 to take a job coaching the Georgetown Hoyas, he received backlash from the student body and fans, especially since the Hoyas were in the same Big East conference as the Friars.

Why did Ed Cooley leave Providence?

Ed told Fox Sports that his decision to leave Providence came when he decided to focus on himself, rather than saying “yes to everybody” else. “I thought Georgetown was the place for me to make that change,” he explained. “As hard as it was because it’s in-conference, and because a lot of people look at that as villainous or betrayal, I hope people give me an opportunity to serve Ed. And it sounds selfish, it sounds real selfish, but sometimes change is need on both sides and I felt for me change was needed.”

He added that his daughter was going to be graduating from Georgetown and remaining in D.C., which also made the move appealing. Plus, he said his wife “wants to live in a city, and she’s done a great job and doing what I’ve wanted to do for 29 years. That played into the role of making a change.”

Despite his insistence that the change was made for the betterment of himself and his family, speculation arose that there was more going on behind the scenes than Ed was letting on. Marital issues and a possible affair were among the theories people had for why Ed wanted to leave Providence.

Who is Ed Cooley’s wife?

Ed’s wife is Nurys Cooley. They have two adult children, Olivia and Isaiah.

While it’s unclear exactly how Nurys and Ed met, they have been together for more than 30 years. In 2019, Nurys received a graduate degree from Providence College, and Ed presented it to her.
