Every Year After follows the second chance love story between Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam, but anyone who’s read Carley Fortune’s book Every Summer After already knows it takes a village to get these childhood besties to pursue their happily ever after. While Jordie is just part of a duo in the book, he’s taking up the mantle as Sam’s lone best friend in the series.

While Cornett and Bradway had already started their press for the new series, chatting with Swooon at the Page, Screen, and Everything in Between convention in May, fans got to know Joseph for the first time at a recent early screening of Every Year After in Canada.

Who is Joseph Chiu?
He is a 23-year-old Canadian actor from Vancouver, British Columbia. He studied Economics and Drama at the University of Toronto, where he played Emmett Forrest in Legally Blonde the Musical and Danny Zuko in Grease, which is a pretty stacked theater resume, if we do say so ourselves. (Jordie sings when?) Before moving to Toronto for university, he bounced around the map, living in Beijing, Hong Kong, Korea, and Brussels.
What has Joseph Chiu been in before?
Fans of Off Campus will be thrilled to know that Chiu has worked with two of the stars. He played Mateo in Motorheads alongside Stephen Kalyn, who played Young Logan. While she hasn’t technically joined the series yet, Season 2’s Grace, India Fowler, worked with Chiu in Fear Street: Prom Queen, where they played Lori Granger and Spider, respectively. Chiu also played Mike in The Miniature Wife and Ensign Weldu in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Who is Jordie in Every Year After?
According to Teen Vogue, Jordie is “A former high-school basketball [player] whose ruptured pec injury dashed his dreams of going pro, [who] has returned to his hometown to run his family’s motel business.” The outlet revealed that Jordie reunites with Percy at the hotel during the premiere, but pretends not to recognize her. Chiu shared, “From Jordie’s point of view, this is the girl that has hurt his best friend over and over again. So it was really fun to play the cheekiness of pretending not to know someone who you’ve grown up with.”
As Jordie is a minor character in the book, it’s unclear what role he’ll play in the narrative. That said, Teen Vogue did call him a “romantic lead.” Do with that what you will…
