What To Know

  • Netflix has announced an upcoming adaptation of Hannah Grace’s Icebreaker.
  • The romance follows a figure skater and hockey player whose teams are forced to share a rink.
  • Alex Cooper’s Unwell Productions is set to produce.

At long last, Hannah Grace’s beloved hockey and figure skating romance is coming to our screens!

On June 15, Netflix announced that they are finally entering the steamy hockey romance scene with a TV adaptation of the beloved Hannah Grace romance, Icebreaker, the first of her Maple Hills interconnected romance series. With Heated Rivalry on HBO Max and Off Campus on Prime Video, it was only a matter of time before Netflix jumped onto the hockey romance adaptation bandwagon.

Right now, it sounds like the streamer will take a faithful approach to adapting the first novel in the series. Netflix writes, “The upcoming college romance series follows Anastasia Allen, a competitive figure skater with her eyes on Olympic gold. Everything changes when Anastasia is forced to share the rink with Nate Hawkins, a hockey player who’s equally determined to go pro. Despite the cold temperatures on the ice, the heat between Anastasia and Nate is undeniable. Is ambition or attraction the sharper blade?”

So, who’s been cast as Stassie, Nate, Henry, and more? Does the show have a premiere date? Scroll to find out everything we know so far about the adaptation and be sure to check out Swooon‘s Maple Hills dream cast!

What is Icebreaker about?

In case you haven’t taken a dip into the Hannah Grace’s Maple Hills universe yet, here’s what Netflix has shared about the series: “She’s the transfer gunning for Olympic gold. He’s the campus star chasing the NHL. But when an accident forces their teams to share one rink, Anastasia Allen and Nate Hawkins collide — and discipline gives way to obsession, because the only thing more dangerous than wanting to win is wanting each other.”

While Stassie isn’t a transfer in the original series, the adaptation appears to be fairly faithful to the original novel so far. We’re curious to see whether Stassie and Aaron’s toxic partnership will make its way onto the screen as well.

What is Icebreaker’s premiere date?

Right now, there is no set premiere date for the Icebreaker TV series. The show has just been announced, so we wouldn’t expect to see it hit the streamer until late 2027 or even 2028. Sounds like a perfect series for a winter release to us!

Who’s been cast in Icebreaker?

Since the series has just been announced, there is no set cast for Icebreaker just yet. That said, fans have been adamant about wanting to see Sabrina Carpenter return to the screen as Anastasia Allen since the book debuted. Be sure to drop your dream casts in the comments below.

Who else is involved in Icebreaker?

Icebreaker is being brought to life by Unwell Productions, Call Her Daddy podcaster Alex Cooper‘s company, along with Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Meena Lefevre as executive producers. The showrunners for the series are Amanda Lasher (Gossip Girl) and Jade Bartlett (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), who are both writers and executive producers as well.

“Netflix has a long history of turning beloved romance novels into massive global hits. We know our members can’t get enough of these stories, which makes Icebreaker the perfect next chapter for us,” Netflix shared. “By supercharging the hockey sports romance genre, Icebreaker has ignited a passionate fandom and helped redefine the landscape of contemporary romance. We are thrilled to partner with Jade Bartlett, Amanda Lasher, and the team at Unwell Productions to bring this irresistible love story to life.”

Will Wildfire and Daydream be adapted too?

The official release only confirms that Icebreaker is being adapted. However, the official statement does mention the “three-book Maple Hills” series, so we’d assume the series will continue into Wildfire and Daydream if given more than one season.
