Can we all agree that Love Island USA Season 8 introduced the best Casa Amor twist in the history of the show? As the OG boys met the new girls via the Hearts on Fire challenge in Episode 17, it was broadcast live back to their original partners in the villa. It was essentially a mini Movie Night, delivering some seriously delicious reality TV.
Now, if you didn’t watch Love Island USA before Season 8 — or Season 7, for that matter — you might not know exactly what Movie Night is. That’s what we’re here for! What is Movie Night in Love Island USA?
The Americans can’t take credit for this twist. Love Island UK Season 7 is where Movie Night originated, and it didn’t come over to Love Island USA until Season 5.
It’s served the same purpose every single time: to test the couples’ commitments before they enter the final stretch. Sitting in front of the big screen, the Islanders watch a compilation of clips from throughout the season, revealing what they’ve said and done behind each other’s backs. The clips are chosen explicitly to create maximum drama. It usually leads to romantic and friendship breakups.
Will there be Movie Night during Love Island USA Season 8?
For reasons unknown, Love Island USA opted out of Movie Night during Season 7, much to many fans’ chagrin. “Movie night would have still been very useful. Showed everyone’s true feelings, cleared some names, shown growth,” one fan wrote on Reddit. Another added, “It’s literally the Super Bowl of Love Island. They’re robbing us of chaos!”
So, until Peacock officially confirms Movie Night, we don’t know if it’ll happen in Season 8. Does the mini Casa Amor Movie Night mean it’s not happening in full down the line? When is Love Island USA Season 8’s Movie Night?
Just because we don’t know if Movie Night is happening doesn’t mean we can’t predict when it will happen. Typically, Movie Night takes place about a week before the final episode. During Season 6, it played out across Episodes 26 and 27. Season 5 was Episodes 27 to 28. At present, we still have all of Casa Amor to get through before Movie Night becomes a possibility.
