‘Off Campus’: Who Is Summer Di Laurentis? All About Dean’s Little Sister

We’re ready to meet the one and only Summer Di Laurentis in Off Campus Season 2. Dean’s (Stephen Kalyn) bubbly little sister is at the center of the Season 1 finale drama — we need to know what happened between her and Hunter (Charlie Evans) — without even showing up. Her power!

There’s a good chance we’ll learn more about Show Summer’s history now that Dean and Allie’s (Mika Abdalla) book, Elle Kennedy’s The Score, is the primary source material for Season 2. Summer does indeed make an appearance in her brother’s book, though she doesn’t become a main character until The Chase. Summer’s romance kicks off Kennedy’s spinoff series called Briar U. Though the show has already veered away from the books by giving Summer and Hunter a messy pre-college backstory, Hunter is heavily involved in her book.

Who is Summer Di Laurentis in Off Campus?

Summer is just as extroverted as Dean — more so, in fact. She’s a social butterfly who can become friends with anyone. Remember in Season 1, when Dean’s giving Allie the tour of his family’s New York apartment and his sister’s collection of vintage purses comes up? That’s a book-accurate detail. Summer is obsessed with fashion, and it’s her major in college. Though she has a party girl exterior, Summer is driven and determined to make it in the industry. She’s not quite as confident as she projects, though. Summer has ADHD and struggles with academics. With two lawyer parents and two older brothers that got into Harvard Law — yes, Dean contains multitudes — she feels like she doesn’t measure up.

Summer starts off as a student at Brown University. But midway through her junior year — when The Chase begins — she’s expelled for accidentally starting a fire at her sorority house. Her dad uses his connections to secure her transfer to Briar. She plans on moving into another chapter of her sorority there, but they kick her out when they find out about her past. With nowhere to live, Dean, who has already graduated, arranges for Summer to live in his old house off campus. The catch? She has to live with three of his younger former hockey teammates. One is Hunter, who Dean doesn’t have a messy past with in the books. However, Hunter and Summer did go to the same prep school, though he was a year behind her.

The others are the lovable Mike Hollis and the grumpy Colin “Fitzy” Fitzgerald, a talented (and tatted) hockey player who wants to design video games.

Who does Summer end up with in Off Campus?

We get a grumpy-sunshine pairing in The Chase. Summer enters her new living situation already having a crush on Fitzy. She met him the previous year while visiting Dean at Briar. On top of being extremely good-looking (obviously), he catches Summer’s attention because he’s the only one of Dean’s hockey friends who isn’t immediately drooling over her. In fact, though he’s attracted to her, Fitz shuts down her interest. They’re total opposites.

Summer isn’t the type to chase a guy, so she doesn’t. Though Fitzy tries to resist once they’re roommates, he develops feelings for Summer. As per usual, they get a happy ending. Surprisingly enough, we find out in future books that they have five kids, the most out of all the Off Campus universe couples.

Who is playing Summer Di Laurentis in Off Campus?

Though Charlie Evans told Swooon in May that they were far away from doing screen tests with potential Summers, that seems to have changed. After the internet started fan-casting actress Olivia Rose Williams — who recently starred in viral vertical microdrama Fight Dirty — the actress asked her manager about auditioning to play the character. According to Williams, she said she couldn’t audition because Summer has already been cast.

If Williams’ comment is anything to go by, yes! Showrunner Louisa Levy hasn’t confirmed directly if Summer will appear in Season 2, though clearly the Briar U characters are fair game. As mentioned, Summer makes a cameo in The Score. Fitzy appears in every Off Campus book aside from the first before leading Briar U‘s first installment.

We asked Levy if she wanted to adapt the Briar U books, and she said, “I would love that. I don’t know what I’ll be allowed to do, but I would love to keep doing this for as long as people keep watching. There are four core Off Campus books. The Legacy is wonderful, but doesn’t sustain its own season. And then we have the four Briar U books, so in success, we could do all of them.”
