What To Know

  • Hannah Harper revealed the major sacrifice her husband, Devon Mendenhall, has made amid her growing music career.
  • Mendenhall serves as her tour manager after previously working in law enforcement for eight years.
  • The couple has been married since 2019 and share three children.

Hannah Harper‘s husband, Devon Mendenhall, has sacrificed a lot for her career, and she recently shared a new update on just how much he’s given up so she can pursue music.

Harper won American Idol in May, and after a very short break, hit the ground running with a tour that lasts until mid-November. Her husband and their three kids have joined her on the road, which meant he’s needed to make a major change in his own life.

After working in law enforcement for eight years, Mendenhall quit his job to become Harper’s tour manager. “He was doing insurance there for a little while,” she told Fox News Digital. “We were going to try to just do, like, a work-on-the-road kind of thing. And then music just got too busy. And he was like, ‘You know what? I think I want to be tour manager.’ And I was like, ‘That’s perfect. I think you should do that.'”

Harper admitted it’s “so much fun” to be building her career with her husband by her side, although she noted that there are hard parts, too. “I think the biggest challenge now is because we’re both working, it’s, ‘OK, when are off hours?'” she pointed out. “You know, like, when normal people go home, they’re done working for the day, but our work is at home. So it’s hard for us to be able to turn it off.”

She said she’s “honored” that Mendenhall was willing to give up his own career for her. “A lot of men wouldn’t do that,” she theorized. “I think their pride would get in the way. And that man would bend over backwards for anything that I asked him to do.”

Harper and Mendenhall tied the knot in 2018 and have since welcomed three sons. In a recent interview with Swooon, she opened up about how he supported her throughout the American Idol process earlier this year.

“Just the emotional weight at the end of each night … just being able to take it off and be like, ‘Here you go,’ and he would take it every single week,” Harper shared. “That was probably the best. I was thankful I had that. Most of the other contestants were carrying it until the end of the competition, and it was like a blanket that I got to take off each night. That was the best part.”
