Ramoona fans, stay strong. Sterling Point Season 1 sees Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle) and Oona (Bo Bragason) ruin the friendship. (Warning: Spoilers for Sterling Point Season 1 ahead!)
Though Oona gets over her initial hesitation and even says “I love you” to Ramona, she’s also the one to call time on their relationship in the Season 1 finale episode. During an interview for Swooon’s Sizzle Reel series, Hoeferle and Bragason recalled fighting over which character was in the wrong during filming. After Ramona discovers that she’s Steven’s (Jay Duplass) biological daughter, she mentions the possibility of visiting Steven in New York to Oona. Oona jumps to the conclusion that Ramona wants to live there.
Oona claims to “know how it’s gonna go” down: Ramona will love her life in New York, forget about Oona, and stay there. Ramona thinks Oona should know her better than that, positing that Oona cares only about herself and not about what Ramona’s going through. It’s Ramona’s barb that Oona’s line of thinking stems from her “mommy issues” that pushes her away fully. Oona claims they aren’t working and a breakup is what’s best for them. She wants Ramona to see the world — without her.

“I don’t agree with the way that Oona does it,” Bragason told Swooon. “I think it’s like, push her away, so that way she goes and actually lives her life and she’s not tied down, but at the same time, it’s also like it’s her biggest fear kind of being realized that she’s going to go off because she can go off.”
She continued, “Oona can’t go anywhere because Maple’s there. And like, yeah, she’s stuck basically. And everyone else is just leaving her, like her mum left her. So I don’t know. I can understand and empathize with Oona. I don’t think she did it in a good way. But also, I think she wants what’s best for Ramona, I guess.”
“I think while we were filming, I was so caught up in Ramona’s emotions about it, but on watching it, I really empathize with Oona,” Hoeferle agreed, while her costar added, “I did argue because when we were filming, I was like, Oona’s right, Oona’s right.”
Ella Rubin, who plays Annie, chimed in during the joint interview, “It’s a testament to your performances and the writing that you really understand where both of them are coming from. Usually when you watch a show, there’s an obvious kind of victor or person who’s correct, and with the two of you, it’s heartbreaking because you really see both their perspectives and you feel for them so much.”
In the end, Ramona decides to go to New York after all. She tries to see Oona one last time before she leaves, but Oona avoids her, explaining to her sister that she wants Ramona to do what’s best for her.
